Marc Chagall (French, 1887-1985) - The Mimosas. A very fine and rare artist proof of a colored lithograph signed by the artist, Marc Chagall, in the margin, as well as being marked 'epreuve d'artiste' along with the proof number XXV in Roman numerals. This edition was limited to 75 copies, of which 25 were artist proofs, and was produced in Paris in 1968. Condition: There is some light toning of the paper. The original sales receipt for the purchase of this lithograph in Paris, France in 1968 will accompany the sale of this lithograph. Image size: 24 1/8" x 17". Offered framed.   « Less

The print is signed in the lower right F.Diiali? A very cute image with star perhaps being the wonderful hand carved and probably original wood frame. The framed measurements are 30''H by 25''W and the sight size of 21''H by 16''W. Condition is very good noting that the mat is attached to the print. Framed dimensions are 20''H by 16''W and the sight size is 15 1/2''H by 11 1/2'' W. Condition of the painting is excellent, however the beautiful period frame has several chips(lower left and lower right corners and top edge.) Biography: Painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes, interiors and still life.. Studied at Brighton Art School, and in Paris under J. P. Laurens and J. E. Blanche. Exhibited at the RA from 1898, at the RI, ROI, and RWA. Elected ROI in 1913. Lived at Hove in Sussex for many years and died on 8th January 1956. - from Dictionary of British Artists Working 1900-1950 by Grant M. Waters. Burleigh exhibited views of Corfe Castle at the Brighton Arts Club (a major provincial group, but with many 'London' names) in 1911, 1914 and 1916. He was also working again in Dorset in the 1920s.
