According to the Fila website: Fila graphite pencils have been a national treasure and symbol of Italian school children since 1920. Constantly present in the lives of children for generations, the family of products made by Fila help kids explore their creativity and imagination... (translation mine)Now you know. As for my lovely and vintage carton: I do love old paper, and old Italian paper -well... this is a pristine ''carton'' (an advertising piece which would have been used for display in a store) for Fila pencils, featuring a typical and typically charming Italian bunch of school children, with one child on the top of a desk showing off his Fila pencils. While the tax stamp is faint is looks to me like it is dated 1924, which would put it just at the beginning of the illustrious career of the company itself. In any case, the piece is magnificent, not only for its depiction of the kids, but also for the details: the rosy cheeks of the children, the patched seat of their pants... I love it. The colors are vibrant and the piece is in very good condition. I think it would look lovely framed. Measuring 13.5 x 9.5 inches. Please note that all of our posters, prints, pochoirs and ephemera are vintage, non-reproduction pieces. Please e-mail any requests for additional information or photographs. We gladly ship all our items worldwide. Thank you! Status: For Sale Reference#: pastfila Condition: A- Year: 1924 Country: Italy Height: 13.5 in. (34.29 cm) Width: 9.5 in. By design, travel posters must express, in clear, concise and easily understandable graphic language, who the carrier is, where there destinations are, how they get there, and why you would want to use them. Whether we are talking about the great posters of the French (or Swiss, or Italian) railways from the early 1900''s, or the early Canadian Pacific Railway (or airline) posters, or mid-century airline travel posters - like this pair for the Belgian air carrier Sabena - the posters had to grab your attention, and make you want to travel. This is an a wonderful pair of posters illustrating the Brussels- New York corridor which Sabena travelled: one poster showing the Brussels-New York leg, the other showing the New York- Brussels Leg. They are mirror images of each other, and use crisp design and graphic language which would not be out of place today. ''SABENA was the national airline of Belgium from 1923 to 2001, with its base at Brussels National Airport. After its bankruptcy in 2001, the newly-formed SN Brussels Airlines took over part of SABENA''s assets in February 2002, which then became Brussels Airlines. The airline had its corporate headquarters in the Sabena House on the grounds of Brussels Airport in Zaventem.''(wikipedia) Each poster measures 25.5 x 37.5 inches, each is pristine (the Brussels-New York poster is mounted on linen while the other is not), and they are being sold as a pair. The posters come from the private collection of a noted collector, author and poster expert and have been in his possession since they were printed over 50 years ago. They will frame up beautifully and are magnificent. Please note that all of our posters are vintage, non-reproduction works of art. Please see our other posters, prints and ephemera. Thank you! We are happy to ship worldwide - please note that the price listed for international shipping is for standard surface mail delivery - international courrier costs for FedEx, DHL, UPS or other companies will be quoted at the time of purchase, based on the buyer''s location. Call us twisted - and you wouldnt be the first! - but any alcohol which is advertised as one of the choices of athletes makes us giggle. (Lillet aperitif is, according to Wikipedia: a brand of French aperitif wine. It is a blend of 85% wine and citrus liqueurs made from a variety of oranges. Lillet is matured in oak casks and available in red and white versions. While it has been produced since the late 1800s, the current formulation dates from 1987 (1990 for Red Lillet) and is relatively less bitter and sugary, and more fruit flavoured, than the historical one. We love the depth of color, the texture and oomph of this poster - powerful and very, very Art Deco. Art Deco was a popular international art design movement from 1925 until the 1940s, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts and film. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, glamorous, functional and modern. The movement was a mixture of many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism,Modernism, Art Nouveau, and Futurism. Its popularity peaked in Europe during the Roaring Twenties and continued strongly in the United States through the 1930s. Although many design movements have political or philosophical roots or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative. Andre Galland produced a variety of posters for Lillet, each featuring smiling and virile athletes. Measuring 23.5 x 31 inches, this poster is in excellent condition - the colors of this poster pop and we feel it will look wonderful framed. All of our posters, prints and pochoirs are authentic, vintage items. Status: For Sale Reference#: footlillet Condition: A Year: 1930 Country: FRANCE Height: 31 in. (78.74 cm) Width: 23 in. Additional photos available upon request. 30 Original Posters from the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Other sites sell these posters for upwards of $300US each!! These are vintage posters and not reproductions. A red Montreal Games Olympic symbol is in the top left of each poster. PRICE IS FOR SET OF 30 POSTERS> Text reads: Jeux de la XXIe Olympiade Montreal/Games of the XXI Olympiad Montreal 1976 This series of posters, commissioned by COJO, illustrated the twenty-one sports on the program of the Games of the XXI Olympiad. Each was intended to communicate the action and immediacy of its sport. The Graphics and Design Directorate, therefore, preferred photographic techniques to drawings, where the results might have been colored by the artist''s personal interpretation. In the search for authenticity and using well defined selection criteria, COJO representatives visited Olympic sites in Munich and selected twenty-one color transparencies from among some 200,000 photos. Each photo had to be suitable for enlargement and reproduction, show readily apparent motion not contrary to the rules or special techniques of the sports, and be as spectacular as possible. ARTIST : Cappiello, Leonetto (1875-1942), Cappiello is considered to be one of the greatest posterists of his age. Cappiello''s approach was ''always image association - the idea that you don''t really remember the image of the product itself, but the image of something is associated with the product ... Cappiello was the first who thoroughly understood this, and he applied it with considerable diligence in about a thousand posters.''(Rennert) Born and raised in Livorno, Italy, Cappiello knew at a young age that he would be an artist. In his youth, Cappiello drew caricatures and sketches, which proved he had a natural talent and an ambition that would eventually lead him to Paris in pursuit of his dream. Encouraged by his brother, who was living in Paris at the time, Cappiello endeavored to sell his caricatures to magazines that would pay and support his art. He was so ambitious that he even approached Giacomo Puccini, the composer to ask if he could sketch him. He was successful and managed to submit the images to Le Rire magazine. Soon after, Cappiello became a sought after cartoonist and caricaturist. His style, simple lines with strong colors and an equally strong product message was evident in some of the first commissions he received: an 1899 album of pochoirs depicting famous actresses of the age shows clearly that even as a young man Cappiello had already developed a style which he would use, with incredible results, throughout his creative life. Cappiello''s portraits and posters were playful and unique, a quality that bred his success. His illustrations were clean and simple, crossing the boundaries from Belle Epoque through to Art Noveau to the more modernist approach of Art Deco while still combining styles from previous eras. Because of the simplicity of his graphics, Cappiello was able to produce nearly 1000 posters in his time and was an inspiration to many lithographers to follow. His work is sought after today and may be found in galleries and museums throughout the world. Only Cappiello could use a larger than life elephant as the mascot for a rolling paper company - Le Nil has achieved brand awareness that has long outlived the brand itself, all thanks to Cappiello''s brilliant use of marketing, and coloring. This is the only example of the famous elephant we have found on tin: printed by the Wetterwald company in Bordeaux, and stamped with the tax stamp of the French government (indicating that a tax of 72 centimes was paid in 1933) this tin also indicates that it was used on the Chemins de Fer du Midi (see the far left side of the tin just above the Papier a Cigarettes notation...) All in all, quite a find. We have shown the back of the tin so you can see what it looks like. There is a slight nick in the far left corner of the tin but it is otherwise quite pristine. It measures 8.75 x 12.75 inches, Condition A- Please note that all of our posters are vintage, non-reproduction works of art. We are happy to ship worldwide - price quoted is for SURFACE mail. Expedited quotes available at additional cost at time of purchase. We will answer any questions, and/or send additional photos upon request. Thanks for your interest. I''m guessing that Vivor was a drink that was popular in France in the 50''s ... how else to explain this elfin little man drinking sheepishly? He is just too cute - and his colors literally pop right off the page/poster! I first saw this poster when a client brought him into the shop to be framed and I fell in love with him then. And on a recent buying trip to France and Italy I found one for myself and brought him back ... he''s gracing the walls of the gallery at the moment, making me think of the South of France and wishing I could find myself a bottle of Vivor. He measures 47 x 63, he''s mounted on linen, in excellent shape and he''s quite striking... at least I think so! Created by P. Gabriel, of whom I can find no record, in, I believe, the 1950s... Please note that all of our posters are vintage, non- reproduction works of art. Thanks! Status: For Sale Reference#: vivor Condition: A - Year: 1950s circa Country: FRANCE Height: 63 in.
