This dome top trunk would come from the late 1800 to very early 1900's. It measures 34.5"L X 24"H X 18"W and is covered in a combination flat metal and blackberry pattern embossed tin. The colors are black and cream and the cream has been given a head start toward the aging process. New handles have been applied and it opens, shuts, and latches just fine.
The interior retains its original paper which is brownish with a green pattern. It has been placed under a protective coating. Not perfect but about 95% complete. The original lithograph remains on the inside lid. The original tray was missing when found so I will include a new tray similar to the new one pictured below, without the dividers. « Less

A nice monitor top trunk from around 1910. This trunk measures 32"L X 24"H X 18.5"W and is built good and solid. Latches work fine and a hasp and working padlock have been installed where the original lock would have been. Goes well with the character of the trunk. The actual hasp is old but I used a safety receiver. If all things work as planned you have to touch the receiver with your finger to move it up just a touch so the hasp will close over it (it is a smooth operation). Hinges and all the important moving things are A+. Nice wide end handles have been installed which are toned much better than shown in the photo's and the bottom has been made suitable for your home. Kind of "clean" but I suppose it has a pretty decent nautical sort of look. The inside is finished wood which has been stained a cut down walnut. The tray is solid poplar and left natural so you get a nice variety of colors. « Less

Dimensions are 35.5"L X 22.5"W X 27"H. Pine construction with very old green over red (or salmon)paint. Hand wrought handles, hinges, hasp, and nails. It appears to make this more watertight, some rawhide was secured over the seams by huge hand forged nails and it made the change from red to green after than, old. The nails extend into the chest and are bent over. The shanks of the nails vary in length and form like the heads. On the back side there is a small wax stamp (like they used to do to seal a letter) stating "customs permission" "B10" (I think) and a symbol I do not recognize but
probably an early customs symbol before the scales symbol was used. I mention this as I would imagine it has been a bit since the customs department has wax stamped items and the green paint is under this seal and not on it. The green is quite old as is the customs department. On one side of this chest are two forged metal squares I would venture to say were used to secure the chest to the ship. In rough seas on an old sailboat, if things are not secure, they tend to become missiles. There is no seam in the metal squares. The hinges shown are certainly very old. They are the second set of hinges. Traces of the first set remain in the same fashion as the second but under the rawhide in contact with the original color. The wrought handles, hasp, and metal squares extend into the chest interior correctly. The hasp will accept a padlock. The structure is super sound with no decay or weakness. Old filler is seen on the bottom attending to board shrinkage which is correct. Some old tool marks are noted in the appropriate curve and join areas. Sits just slightly back from the two guys carrying it dragging the back bottom first before setting it down. The inside is clean and very suitable for storage as you wish. The outside has been treated with linseed oil and a shot of wax. It is very smooth to the touch.I tend to approach old chests cautiously but cannot find fault in this one. The age is an estimate but I feel comfortable at 200 years anyway. Should breeze through another 100. « Less

At 36"L X 24"H X 21"W this is a large curved top trunk from around 1910 or so. While it was built with a slight curve, I believe this one supported a good size TV for a couple teens through the 70's and 80's, and as such, it is pretty much a flat top these days. Sort of the long board bends easier than a short board thing. 20 years of a good size TV put the sway in this one, which makes it flat since it was curved to start. It is constructed of what appears to be solid birch or something similar other than pine. Not a perfect trunk in that there is a crack across the lid and another on the back which are stress cracks and there are some chunks on the top missing from what appears to have been a nail pulling in removal of the of the original strap keepers. No decay, just minor trauma along the way, sounds bad, looks nicer. All hardware is original other than the lock was missing when found. Sort of has that rustic look about it so I installed an old oversized hasp and working padlock in its place. 2 keys are included. All other exterior hardware is original, the latches work great, opens and shuts like new, and the slat clamps are quite pronounced with fresh paint.

A nice vintage trunk which comes from England and made in the 1920-1930 era. At 36"L X 24"H X 23"W it is a good size example of this oak bound style and offers plenty of storage space. The outside is complete with its original painted canvas which has been cleaned and treated with a finish coating as well as the original European style handles which are in wonderful condition. All hardware is original other than the hinges which would have been a made of material and were no longer supportive. I have installed metal hinges and they are hidden under the canvas. This trunk has two English Lever locks which latch and unlatch perfectly although the locking key is not present. On the oak slats there is steel hardware which has been left with natural discolorations although placed under a protective coating. Various original brass tacks are here and there and provide some contrast. Everything is good and secure and it displays with nice original character. The inside originally was fabric lined but was soiled beyond saving. It has been removed and the wood finished and left exposed. The original soft bottom tray is present but again the material was not in the best of condition so I have installed a birch wood bottom which works well.

If you were a suave well to do gentleman, high roller, or stagecoach robber, this is the kind of nice leather trunk you might have owned back in the 1800's. The trunk measures a fairly standard stagecoach size 31"L X 18"H X 18"W and is a rare to find leather flat top. Difficult to see in the stand back photo's, but It is covered with numerous tooled designs in the leather which are on all sides, even the back. The leather itself is in very good condition. A few minor repairs made to loose stitching, a corner or two, and cleaned up wear around the lip where it closes. Normal wear areas, nothing bad or distracting at the least. The leather is soft with its skin intact. Very unusual to find is that this antique trunk retains its original handles which are about the thickest and best I have come across. The straps were missing when found so I did what I could using some slightly vintage ones to be in character with the aged look. The wood slats are a hardwood and there are a ton (approx 280) brass covered nails and rivets which are not painted. The lock is solid brass and a nice one from the same era but not the original one is my observation. It has a decorative piece that slides back and forth to reveal the key hole but consider the lock non-functional. Hinges are great and it is very sturdy and well built. The bottom is in great shape with its oak runners, top quality zinc metal covering (will not rust), and more brass rivets. The inside was largely missing when found. It has been relined, a tray made, and the lid compartment rebuilt. Sounds simple but it took a bit of time. The colors are antique white, black, and the patterned area is a natural linen which is sort of grayish. New straps to hold the lid have been added as was original. Behind the drop down compartment would be a nice place to add a little something of your own to make officially yours. « Less

This barrel stave trunk measures 29"L X 21"H X 16.5"W and more the size of the old stagecoach trunks being made in that transition period. Probably took a ride or two on an old steam ship, locomotive, and/or a wagon to get there. It is decorated with metal buttons and retains its original oak handles and slats. The inside is very clean, finished, and perfectly suited for storage as you wish. The bottom is in tip top shape. « Less

I am not an expert on all things military but this appears to be an Army tool box for field use in repair of heavy equipment such as planes, tanks, tracked vehicles, or large guns. It probably would mount in the back of a jeep on hangers and then driven to the item needing repair. Based on what I can see of its construction, I would guess it to be from the 1920-1940 era. It measures a good size 34"L X19.25"H X 18.25"W and is wood construction with thick metal plate trim, brass hardware (they were painted), and a ton of the old style flat head screws. It is built to military specs and weighs upwards of 90lbs empty. The top appears to be a couple layers of solid oak and overall it would survive anything short of a direct shell hit. When found, the front wood cover was missing unfortunately. With that door most likely went the original stenciling and I have no reference to other pieces such as this. The door was rebuilt which removes and flips for in use position and the paint computer matched to the rest of this chest. It is shown in the last two photo's. I will leave any stenciling up to the buyer which presents a nice opportunity for personal affiliation. Other than that, things are complete and it is being offered as shown. All other paint is original and has been cleaned up to be suitable for inside display. Behind the front cover are the 3 original drawers which are dovetailed and screwed and operate perfectly. There are various compartments in the drawers for tools and replacement parts and everything is as sound as day one. Each of the drawer dividers are sunk into the drawer bottom to be watertight. The very bottom has thick wood runners and things are extremely sound.

A nice metal covered stagecoach trunk from about 1880 which is about the time the gunfight at the OK Corral occurred. This trunk measures 30"L X 20"H X 17.25"W and would be a nice collectible accent piece offering storage or just to hold a couple logs by the fireplace. It is metal covered which has been freshly painted brown as the primary color with black on the metal trim and hardware.Opens and shuts like a new car door and the latches work perfectly. Lock has patent dates of 1868
and 1877. « Less

This chest is solid wood construction and a good size piece at 43.25"L X 20"H X 21.75"W as it sits. Some wooden feet could be installed to raise it up however high you wish and provide you a slightly different look but I will leave that to you or let's discuss beforehand. Right now, it is the perfect height for a coffee table or for the foot of a bed. It is painted using eco-friendly, non-toxic paint that will never chip or peel but rather wear gracefully. « Less
