For sale I have a lovely piece of pottery made by the Peters and Reed Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The shape is a Hanging Planter and it is the ever poular Moss Aztec Line. The Planter measures 4 7/8" tall and is 5 5/8" in diameter. The inside opening measures 5 1/8" wide. The Planter depicts a mock Wicker Basket pattern and there are even simulated nails in the fine details as if holding the basket together. The Beehive shaped Basket has three main straps for a solid construction look with the top main collar. This is such a nice job on the details that the Planter would indeed enhance a Basket Collection as well. There is a waterproofing glaze on the interior so you can actually use it. The piece is glazed in the Moss Aztec technique which is a Terra Cotta with a Verde Accent applied over it. It resembles Moss that grows in shady areas as it is in the crevices or lower relief areas of the design. There are three factory drill holes for the lucky winner to tie Jute to hang as it was intended for. The piece is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The Planter has been used by its previous owner and could use a good cleaning by the new owner as there are some calcium deposits on the upper inside rim. This does not detract from the piece when it is displayed and again could be soaked out by its new owner. The piece is unsigned however guaranteed to be Vintage Peters and Reed from the Moss Aztec line. Peters and Reed Pottery (1897-1919) was bought out in 1920 and the name was changed to Zane Pottery of Zanesville, Ohio. They still produce some of the same styles as Peters and Reed. They changed from Red Clay to White Clay Products in 1926.Frank Ferrel designed this Line for Peters and Reed. He was employed there from 1906-1918. In 1918 he left Peters and Reed to work for Roseville Pottery. The piece was made Circa 1910-1915.   « Less

For Sale is a wonderful Matte Green Ferner made by The Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The pattern is known as " Ceramic Design" and it is done in the most Popular Matt Green Glaze. This is a wonderful Arts and Crafts Shaped Ferner. The Planter Stands 3 1/16" tall and is 5 1/4" in diameter. The Ferner displays the most Popular Matt Green Glaze. The piece is supported by 3 column shaped legs which are concave or Hollow on the interior and resemble Buttress Supports. The legs are molded right into the form and are not applied. The Ferner is unsigned but it can be seen in the reference book by Jack and Nancy Bomm "Roseville in All Its Splendor" page 90, center top row. This is a wonderful Arts and Crafts shaped Matt Green Ferner. The Ferner is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no issues to report. This is known as mold or shape number 204-3 in Roseville's Catalog pages. This is a splendid matte green vase produced by Roseville Pottery in their early years. Those of you who collect Roseville's Matte Green Line and want an excellent example of this form and glaze, look no further. This will be a wonderful addition to any Teco, Hampshire, or Grueby Matte Green Pottery Collection. This also would look just wonderful on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts style Bookcase. This piece was made in the early 1900's, circa 1900-1905.   « Less
