A sophisticated and important ceremonial vessel from the Tairona Culture. This unique "Joined Chieftain Jar" represents a unity or marriage between a leading male and female dignitary. The vessels are tethered by a strap handle and secured at mid torso using a hollowed bridge - produced to distribute liquids (probably chicha) and effectively demonstrates equal balance of power). Both figures adorning well defined elaborate necklaces, large butterfly nose pieces and ear ornaments. Arms and legs to their sides with genitalia exposed. In addition, the male chews coca and possess a lower lip or chin plug.
Extremely scarce example of a high ranked female displaying a shared talisman pendant. One of the most elite effigies, the emblematic "bird" figure with spread wings.
Black Ware with earthen deposits throughout. North western Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Columbia. 900-1500AD. Measures 12.5" in length, over 8" in height. Very impressive and refined center piece in an exceptional state of preservation.

A rare example of a very early Guangala figurine from Ecuador, circa 500 BC - 100 AD. This piece depicts a female with incised patterns that are indicative of jewelry, clothing, and/or possible tattooing/ritual scarification.
These figures show some similarity to earlier Valdivian (Venus) figurines and are mostly mis-represented as from the Machalilla Phase. The incising across the neck of this figure is thought to represent a necklace. As such, Guangala figures such as this example are among the earliest figurines in the New World to depict individuals wearing jewelry.
Measures 2â€/5.08 cm.

Palmers Stones represents the earliest known appearance of human figurines in the New World. The range from simple ground plaques (Phase 1) to elaborately carved representations in which the facial features are clearly indicated and hands are depicted as a feather or rake-like design. The stone prisms are turned into human effigies by low relief carving emphasizing the eyes and hands. The progressive sequence of stone figurines are from the simple rectangular plaque, to plaques with a groove indicating the division between the legs, to the more detailed depiction of the human face and limbs (Phase 2).
