Harper's Weekly, May 17, 1862 - page 320. Black; cream. Paper. This original page contains two political cartoon, wood engravings by J. McLenan, one of Jeff Davis and one of the Mayor of New Orleans. "The Mayor of New Orleans yielding to Brute Force." A turtle, dressed in mens clothing, lie on his back. He is saying, "Kill me! But Spare my feelings." Two sailors stand over him. It is initialed by John McLenan in the lower left corner. "Whew! That Old Hen, Jeff Davis, has been trying to hatch a Rotten Egg." It shows a hen leaving her nest marked, "Richmond." The large egg is marked, "Session Egg." An officer, holding his nose, punched a hole in the egg with his sword. It is signed J. McLenan in the lower left hand corner., Civil War « Less
