Rare flow blue soup tureen with matching deep undertray. H&K PALMERSTONE. Made in England, 19th century. Measurements: tray is 14 inches long X a little over 10 1/4 wide. More »
Rare flow blue soup tureen with matching deep undertray. H&K PALMERSTONE. Made in England, 19th century. Measurements: tray is 14 inches long X a little over 10 1/4 wide. Tureen is 14 inches from handle to handle, 9inches accross and 8inches high. Beautiful pattern of roses and blossoms in deep dark blue. Frilly shaped base of tureen is echoed by the well of the undertray and the larger frill of the upper rim and lid are echoed by the curves of the tray rim. Moulded handles and finial. Slightly folded form of tureen. Both tureen and undertray are marked in blue underglaze H&K within a round tube and PALMERSTONE inside the circle formed by the tube. Also underglaze letter F on both shows that they are a matching set. The condition of both pieces is great. The tureen is in excellent condition with absolutely negligible marks hidden on the upper inside corner. The undertray has no damage but is quite badly crazed in the center. The craze marks would likely fade in a bleach bath. Status: For Sale Reference#: 1244 Condition: See Description Year: See Description « Less

1883 artist signed Royal Worcester, England, pheasant or quail bowl. Moulded in form of a bird and handpainted with a pheasant/quail. Measures: just under 7 1/4inches More »
1883 artist signed Royal Worcester, England, pheasant or quail bowl. Moulded in form of a bird and handpainted with a pheasant/quail. Measures: just under 7 1/4inches long; 5inches accross at widest point and 1'' high. Very unusual bowl made in the form of a bird. The center is handpainted by a top artist with a scene of bird. As a stand-alone painting this is a fabulous work. A pheasant emerges from long grass. Gold highlights and a wonderful array of yellow and green grasses. Around the painting the sides of the bowl are fluted and decorated with a soft brown transfer pattern. The wings of the bird and it''s marvellous head seem to take off in flight from the rim. Moulded feathers highlighted in gold, strong head and beak and dark rounded eyes. Marks: underneath the piece is marked: the Royal Worcester Vitreous mark in brown with date letter u for 1883. Also Reg No. 140006. Artist initials AW are probably for Watkins A. W. who was only at the factory for a short while and apprenticed to one of the best of the pheasant painters at R Worcester. Condition is great. There is negligible wear to the gilding on the inside of the wings, but we blacklit the piece and there is no damage of any sort. Figurine of Minerva, made England circa 1770-1775 by Derby / Chelsea Derby.Stands 10 1/2inches high. Figurine stands on an ornate, Rococco scrolling base, heavilly gilded. More »
Figurine of Minerva, made England circa 1770-1775 by Derby / Chelsea Derby.Stands 10 1/2inches high. Figurine stands on an ornate, Rococco scrolling base, heavilly gilded. Minerva, the goddes of wisdom. She is the roman counterpart of Athene, said to be a daughter of Zeus. At her feet the wise owl is perched on a pile of books and as she was also a warrior, she holds a shield upon which the head of the Gorgon Medusa is moulded. Behind her are bushes with tiny flowers and leaves. The same figure is to be found in John and Margaret Cushion''s book on porcelain, pg 136. It is unmarked, as were most pieces of the time.Condition is generally very good, considering the age. The index finger of her right hand has lost it''s tip. There is a kiln crack under the base, original to the piece. There are a number of losses to the leaves in the background (as is also very common in a piece of this age). Black light shows no other losses or restorations. Status: For Sale Reference#: 1648 Condition: See Description Year: See Description « Less

1 Coalport cabinet plate with handpainted bird painting, rich gilding and jewels. Made England 1880-1920.Measures 8 3/4inches in diameter.Wavy-edged gilded rim with moulded and gilded bows. Minutely detailed background pattern in green and gold. A golden ring with blue and white flowers and foliage alternating with raised gilded stylised plants and further embellished with tiny gold jewels. The inner golden circle has a double pattern of raised triangles. The central round reserve is painted with a beautiful double tailed, long beaked bird. Crimson chest. The light falls on the underside of his face and bottom of his tail, giving them a golden sunny look, which is echoed in part of the background. The plate is signed with the Coalport mark for 1881-1920 and has impress number 2JI. Further red handwritten numbers near the rim on the back.Condition is genrally very good.Painting and gilding are clear, unfaded and rich. Very close observation shows a fine glaze crack (magnified in the photos), but this does not compromise either the plate nor the painting.
