Ancient coins tell us a great deal about the culture that minted them. This superb token of classical Athens is adorned with the image of Athena, Goddess of wisdom, on one side and with her sacred bird, the owl, on the other. The golden age of Athens produced creative works and ideas that are still meaningful to the present. Set in this unique ring, this lovely coin is meant for the hand of someone who makes full use of an active intelligence. - (FJ.1895) « Less

As with people, ancient coins all possess a unique character: not two are exactly alike. In addition to those features struck into this coin at the Athenian mint, it has acquired some distinctive markings with the passage of time. A ring meant for a person who also stands out in a crowd. - (FJ.1900) « Less

The character of Alexander the great is both fascinating and mystifying. He was by turns brilliant, ambitious, generous, cruel, logical, a little mad and ultimately elusive. It is possible that he even thought himself a god. Alexander iii, king of Macedon and later king of Persia was the most legendary and visionary leader the world has ever known. He was born in 356 B.C., the son of Philip II of Macedon and his headstrong queen Olympias. While Alexander was growing up, his father was bringing Greece under Macedonian hegemony, with the ultimate goal of destroying the Persian Empire. In addition to extensive military training, Alexander was tutored by Aristotle. Relations between his father and mother were often strained and both Alexander and Olympias have sometimes been implicated in the assassination of Philip ii in 336 B.C. at this time, Alexander became ruler of Macedon and leader of the unified invasion force against Persia. He led his army across the Hellespont in 334 B.C. and won a series of decisive victories, which led to the ultimate downfall of the Persian king Darius III. Alexander conquered Egypt and founded a new city, Alexandria, which became one of the great capitals of antiquity. Altogether Alexander and his army marched as Far East as India and created one of the largest unified empires ever known. Alexander died at the age of thirty-three and his kingdom was divided among his more ambitious followers. - (FJ.2220) « Less

The image of Artemis, goddess of the hunt, adorns one side of this ancient coin. On the other is a winged thunderbolt. The daughter of Zeus (king of the gods), and twin sister to Apollo (god of the arts), Artemis was famous for the sureness of her aim with bow and arrow. She lived free, roaming the hills and forests with her nymphs. This ring is the ideal jewel for someone who is equally free-spirited and whose aim is always on target. - (FJ.2819) « Less

On one side of this ancient coin is the head of Zeus, king of the gods. On the other is a chariot drawn by galloping horses. Who might have held this coin when the Classical world was in full flower? A merchant who travelled to all the great ports of the Mediterranean? An actor who appeared in Greek dramas at the theater of Syracuse? An artist who painted frecoes in the villas of nobles and kings? There is a mystery and romance about such objects. They act as tickets to take the imagination on wondrous journeys into the vanished past. - (FJ.2827) « Less

On the obverse of this beautiful coin is the head of Poseidon, god of the oceans, patron of horses and bringer of earthquakes. On the reverse is the god's attribute, a trident head with two dolphins. The power and glory of ancient Syracuse derived from the sea, for the city was a famous trading center, located in the center of the Mediterranean. It is no wonder they paid tribute to this god on their coinage. The person who wears this ring today should also find good fortune in all ventures where Poseidon holds sway. - (FJ.2828) « Less

When we think of the Classical world, it is Athens and her lasting achievements, which come immediately to mind. The architectural glories of the Parthenon, the dramas and comedies of her playwrights, the works of Plato, even the institution of democracy itself, all sprang from this one rich source. This splendid coin, depicting Athena (goddess of wisdom) on one side and her sacred owl on the other, was minted in that Golden Age. To wear it today is to connect us with a remarkable past, and to affirm our belief in its enduring heritage. - (FJ.2838) « Less

This genuine ancient coin has been mounted in a modern 18 karat gold ring.
The beautiful face that adorns this silver coin is that of the nymph Larissa, for whom the Thessalian city was named. Her lovely gaze seems touched with shyness, as befits a nature goddess who hides from the sight of mankind. Though the beliefs of the classical world have been abandoned, the serene charms of this ancient Goddess reach across the centuries. To wear this ring is to transcend time, to touch something whose beauty is eternal. - (FJ.3029) « Less
