There is something innocent and spectacular about advertising from the Art Deco period - it gets the message across so gently but yet so forcefully at the same time. I find this piece very evocative of the Gazette du Bon Ton and other fashion periodicals of the time in France - simple, elegant, but very, very Deco. Some combination of fashion and environment so that the viewer is always reminded that fashion and life does not take place in a vacuum ... An unusual combination of colors designed to catch the eye of a consumer as they were shopping, this was a point of sale piece which hung from the rafters of a store ... It is impressive and colorful and in A condition - some aging is noted at the borders but the image is clear and intact. Probably produced in the 1930s, it is being sold for $125. It is an authentic and non-reproduction piece as is every other piece we sell. We are happy to ship worldwide. Thank you for your interest. According to the Fila website: Fila graphite pencils have been a national treasure and symbol of Italian school children since 1920. Constantly present in the lives of children for generations, the family of products made by Fila help kids explore their creativity and imagination... (translation mine)Now you know. As for my lovely and vintage carton: I do love old paper, and old Italian paper -well... this is a pristine ''carton'' (an advertising piece which would have been used for display in a store) for Fila pencils, featuring a typical and typically charming Italian bunch of school children, with one child on the top of a desk showing off his Fila pencils. While the tax stamp is faint is looks to me like it is dated 1924, which would put it just at the beginning of the illustrious career of the company itself. In any case, the piece is magnificent, not only for its depiction of the kids, but also for the details: the rosy cheeks of the children, the patched seat of their pants... I love it. The colors are vibrant and the piece is in very good condition. I think it would look lovely framed. Measuring 13.5 x 9.5 inches. Please note that all of our posters, prints, pochoirs and ephemera are vintage, non-reproduction pieces. Please e-mail any requests for additional information or photographs. We gladly ship all our items worldwide. Thank you! Status: For Sale Reference#: pastfila Condition: A- Year: 1924 Country: Italy Height: 13.5 in. (34.29 cm) Width: 9.5 in. Call us twisted - and you wouldnt be the first! - but any alcohol which is advertised as one of the choices of athletes makes us giggle. (Lillet aperitif is, according to Wikipedia: a brand of French aperitif wine. It is a blend of 85% wine and citrus liqueurs made from a variety of oranges. Lillet is matured in oak casks and available in red and white versions. While it has been produced since the late 1800s, the current formulation dates from 1987 (1990 for Red Lillet) and is relatively less bitter and sugary, and more fruit flavoured, than the historical one. We love the depth of color, the texture and oomph of this poster - powerful and very, very Art Deco. Art Deco was a popular international art design movement from 1925 until the 1940s, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts and film. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, glamorous, functional and modern. The movement was a mixture of many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism,Modernism, Art Nouveau, and Futurism. Its popularity peaked in Europe during the Roaring Twenties and continued strongly in the United States through the 1930s. Although many design movements have political or philosophical roots or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative. Andre Galland produced a variety of posters for Lillet, each featuring smiling and virile athletes. Measuring 23.5 x 31 inches, this poster is in excellent condition - the colors of this poster pop and we feel it will look wonderful framed. All of our posters, prints and pochoirs are authentic, vintage items. Status: For Sale Reference#: footlillet Condition: A Year: 1930 Country: FRANCE Height: 31 in. (78.74 cm) Width: 23 in. Sterk Door Werk ARTIST : Jean Walter (possibly Jean Walter Nieuwenhys - Belgian 1900-1980) The translation for this impressive Dutch poster (''strengthened through work'') gives the viewer no doubt of the message: a labourer is carting a heavy burden, the smokestacks of industry are billowing and it is through hard work that progress will be made. The poster is highly stylized in the art deco manner which uses strongly symmetrical geometric forms and designs and strong clear colors. Please note that all of our posters, prints and pochoirs are original, non-reproduction, vintage works of art. For shipping purposes, this poster will be removed from its frame.
