Splashed sgraffiato ware,the body of buff earthenware with low rounded cavetto walls and an everted sloping rim, resting on a foot-ring. Engraved Copper Alloy Inkwell (Mihbara) - LO.877, Origin: Central Asia, Circa: 1100 AD to 1200 AD, Dimensions: 3" (7.6cm) high x 2.5" (6.4cm) wide, Collection: Islamic Art, Style: Seljuk, Medium: Quarternary Bronze. Small cylindrical inkwell with knobbed lid, cast and engraved with inscription in pseudo Kufic on the lid, engraved wave pattern around the body. Three tiny applique loops on the sides of the body corresponding to other three little handles attached to the sides of the lid would have channelled the ropes through for carrying.Similar inkwells are known signed by craftsmen from Nishapur and Herat. « Less

The animated well spaced and perfectly suited decoration is in tune with the artistic production of the mid 12th century, when a huge variety of decorative themes and typologies were spurred, commissioned by the emerging strong bourgeoisie in northeastern Iran. The bowl with a round flaring body and a flaring foot. The outside decorated on the rim by a row of dotted circles, below the rim a band of cursive script. Around the body a large register of roundels separated by ribbon motifs. The medallions featuring an intricate foliage pattern interspersed with openwork dots. The elongated vase with a globular body over a large domed splayed foot, topped by a narrow- waisted neck terminating in an everted splayed rim. The rim decorated with an incised row of Kufic script, the shoulder featuring a tall register of circular rosettes intersperced by openworked foliage motis. The main globular body with three horizontal rows of sunken bosses, the central register featuring roundels with an incised knot motif. The splayed foot again with a row of Kufic script. « Less
