Antique set of 6 Chinese ceramic plates. Made in China 18th century during the Qianlong dynasty, 1736 - 1795. Antique tall ceramic vase or lidded jar, with Chinese design. Made in England by Masons Ironstone China and also marked for Mappin & Webb Ltd., who might have been the retailers (they are usually associated with English silver). Made prior to 1880 as the word England does not appear on the mark. Measures approx 13 1/2 inches tall (including lid). Distance accross widest point is just under 5 1/2 inches. Stands on a square base with gilded rim. 4 rounded sides, curving as they narrow to a long thin neck, ending in another gilded rim. Chinese pagoda style lid with a pear-shaped gilded finial. The ground colour is a fantastic bright Imperial yellow. It is richly decorated with cobalt blue dragons and clouds, with gold patterns. Highly elegant and attractive. Marked on the base MASONS, the crown, a banner with PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA and below that MAPPIN & WEBB LTD., which is most unusual (to have both marks). The absence of the word England indicates that the piece was made prior to 1880. Condition is very good. No chips/cracks/damage/restoration to be found. Antique vase, made in Japan 1891 - 1921, when the name Nippon was in use. Measures 7 1/4 inches high. Stands on 4 richly gilded paw feet, arching gently to the knees. Ovoid shaped body with a pastel, pale blue ground, narrows at the neck and flares out on the upper rim, which is moulded like fabric, square shaped, at an opposing angle to the vase, with gently scalloped edges and gilded, jeweled edges. Beautifully handles on either side - like a flipping tail, arching back and upwards. The small neck has a dark brown ground with a continuous key pattern in gold on it. A few pieces from the fabulous enamelled tulip floral porcelain pattern. Made 1880 - 1920 by Crown Ducal, England. Handles of sugar a little over 5 1/4 inches accross. More »
A few pieces from the fabulous enamelled tulip floral porcelain pattern. Made 1880 - 1920 by Crown Ducal, England. Handles of sugar a little over 5 1/4 inches accross. Creamer / milk jug is 6 1/4 inches from spout to tip of handle and between 3 3/4 and 4 inches high. Will come with a matching pair of cups and saucers. The tulip pattern depicts fabulously hand-enamelled and detailed tulips in bright orange and golds. Small blue flowers and foliage as the background with a ring of burnt orange, mustard and blue around the rims. Creamy, pale yellow ground. This is possibly one of the most stunning patterns visually to have been produced. The shape of the pieces is also very striking: canted corners, subtle angles and a rich, luxurious feel. Each piece is marked with the Crown Ducal mark under a Crown, underneath. There are a number of squiggles that presumably had something to do with the production, but are not intelligible to us. General condition is good, but there is some fairly minor wear to the enamel.
