This large tile plaque certainly evokes the Arts and Crafts aesthetic with it's matte glazes and stylized form. Most likely the work of Nis Stougaard (1906-87)this depicts Østerlars, a 12th century round church in Svaneke on the island of Bornholm. Østerlars is the largest of four round churches on the island, built this way for defense. It's a beautiful image, and even though the main focus is a church, it is not overtly religious.
The back is simply marked "Sveneke". The edges of the hand formed plaque has incised holes through the sides to accommodate a wire to use as a hanger. The condition remains excellent.

Silver Denarius of Emperor Commodus - C.5405Origin: MediterraneanCirca: 180 AD to 192 ADCollection: NumismaticsStyle: RomanMedium: Silver.Lucius Aelius Aurelius Commodus was born on August 31, 161 A.D. to the Emperor Marcus Aurelius and Faustina Junior. Of their thirteen children, he was the only boy to survive early childhood, thus making him the logical heir to the throne. He was appointed as Caesar at the age of five and was officially presented to the army at the age of twelve in 173 A.D. Two years later, young Commodus was named Princeps Ivventis and coopted in the college of priests. Next, he accompanied his father on a victorious military campaign against the Germans and the Sarmatians. In 177 A.D., the title of Augustus was bestowed upon him and he was lofted to the position of co-ruler alongside his father. That same year, he was married to Crispina, the daughter of one of the dutiful generals on the Sarmatian campaign. The next year, Commodus embarked upon another German campaign that ended with a favorable peace shortly after his father’s death in 180 A.D. Soon afterward, a Senatorial plot was uncovered and suppressed in 182 A.D. Implicated in the conspiracy were both his wife Crispina and his sister Lucilla, both of whom would be exiled to Capri. Ten years later, on December 31, 192 A.D., Commodus was murdered. « Less

"The early eighteenth century saw an exceptionally active international trade in ancient coins and antiquities and the formation of a number of significant collections assembled by aristocratic amateurs, scholarly gentlemen and cunning dealers throughout Europe. The centre of the antiquities trade was Rome, teeming with dealers who purchased the many coins, gems and other objects found daily in excavations in the city or in the fields of the Roman campagna. In turn, the dealers sold to the local Roman aristocracy, to learned collectors and to the many visitors to the Eternal City on the Grand Tour. There were also forgers in Rome, skilful craftsmen who worked with less than scrupulous dealers to sell their copies of ancient coins as genuine to unsuspecting collectors." Again, these are the EXTRA pieces in addtion to the setting for 8. There is a small chip in one cup, a crack in another, and a few small chips in two serving bowls.
