This carving out of Japanese 'kiri' or paulownia wood is from the early 1800's when a monk named Mokujiki was on a pilgrimage throught Japan and left carvings at temples he stayed at. This piece has no sanskrit around the halo as do most of Mokujiki's works and is not carved out of Japanese elm but the expression is very much like other Mokujiki works leading us to believe it is one of his works. A wonderful playful expression. c.1805. (18" x 8" x 7") (46cm x 20cm x 18cm). EMS Shipping/Insurance to USA or Western Europe $150. « Less
