For sale is a Desk Set Item made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The Item for Sale is a pair of "Blotter Ends" and it is done in Tiffany's "Zodiac" Desk Set Pattern. The Blotter Ends measures 19 1/4" long and is 2". They are low profile as they only stand 1/2" tall.
The Blotter Ends have the very desirable Acid Etched Gold (Dore') small flake Patina. This is one of the most Popular Patinas in this Desk Set Pattern. This Desk set Item displays the 12 different zodiac signs on each blotter end as each one has 6 on each blotter end. These Blotters ends are quite heavy as they are solid brass with a patina.
These Blotter Ends are considered to be in excellent condition as there are no dents, or dings. These 2 pieces show minimal signs of wear from use. The Gold Patina on the underside is much brighter than the top side. They have naturally darkened over time and shows they age. When they were made they looked more like the underside in color. The Blotter ends are both signed on the bottom with "Tiffany Studios New York" Impressed Mark along with the Pattern Number 988 for the Blotter Ends Number in this desk set. There is also an illegible number scratched just below one of the impressed numbers. This was more than likely an order number.
Tiffany started using a 3 digit number for his Fancy Desk Set goods after 1902 subsequently these was made early circa 1902-1910. This is a quality item in the Tiffany Desk Set Items. I'm Sure the Lucky Buyer will be delighted with their purchase « Less

For sale is one of the Rarest Desk Set Items to be found and it was made by Apollo Studios of New York, New York. The Desk Set Item is a "Cigar or Cigarette lighter" and it is done in a very decorative design. The Lighter Stands 4 7/8" tall and is 2 3/4" in diameter at the bottom.
The lighter display a very nice textured gold body that resembles Tiffany's Gold (Dore') acid etched finish. The top component parts are done in a brass or gold plate. There is a wonderfully shaped handle that is attached to the lower part of the body and top lip. There is a vertical raised flower and leaf pattern on both sides of the Lighter's Body. The bottom of the lighter appears to have some sort of Coat of Arms Design that has wonderful colors of Black, Red, Gold and Green enamel. The top round plate under the lighter's mechanism also has a decorative design. It is a round disk with a Fleur de Lis pattern done in Red, Black and Gold. The wick has a cap to protect it and a chain attached to the mechanism so you won't loose it.
The Lighter is considered to be in very good condition. It shows wear from use. Most of the gold is off the handle and the bottom has about 90% of its enamel still intact. The bottom edge shows a few minor dings from being dropped. The lighter still works as the wick and flint are still with it. I haven put any fluid in it but I do get a spark when I turn the wheel on the flint. The piece is signed with the impressed "Apollo Studios New York" mark along with the pattern number "3047" impressed just underneath.
This is a Rare find in the Apollo Studios line. Most of these were tossed out and very few have survived through the years. Those of you who collect Tobacciana items will surely welcome this fine addition. This piece was made during the Tiffany Studios Era circa 1910-1920.
Apollo Studios of New York was a division of Bernard Rice & Sons, and was in existence between 1909 and 1922. This company was a contemporary of Tiffany Studios. Their items were offered for sale in the prestigious Ovingtons on Fifth Avenue in New York. Ovingtons sold china, crystal, fine art, silver and hand painted portraits on ivory, among other things. Ovingtons was a direct Retail Competitor to Tiffany and Company and Tiffany Studios. « Less

For sale is one of the Rarest of the desk set items to be found and it is made by Tiffany Studios of New York. The Item is a "Postage Scale" and it is done in the "Pine Needle" desk set pattern. The patina on the metal is the most desirable Green/Brown. The stained glass is the green/white opalescent Favrile glass. The Postage Scale stands 3 3/8" tall, 1 3/4" wide and 2 7/8" deep. The round platform on the top is 1 7/8" in diameter.
This Postage Scale displays an Acid Etched Pine Needle Overlay Pattern on Green/White Opalescent Glass surrounding three sides of the Scale. The left, right and back. The Top round disk that held the letter even has this acid etched pattern as well as the top plate of the scale underneath that. The Front has a Postage Scale label with its weight measures and rates in the front. It is marked Crescent Postal Scale and has a date of January 31st 1899 in the lower right hand corner. There is some earlier dates to the left but this is the latest one. The mechanism was made by Crescent but the Acid Etched Metal Pattern and Glass along with the Patina was done by Tiffany Studios. This is one the hardest items to find in the Pine Needle desk set items along with the Magnifying Glass I just listed. This also happens to be one the most desirable and Rarest of the Tiffany Pine Needle Desk set pieces to acquire. The Patina is very good but does show signs of wear!
The Postage Scale is considered to be in very good condition as there are no cracks, nicks, or chips to any of the Glass. The only issues is a few dings in the metal. I can see one one on the back and lower front platform. The round letter disk holder is slightly bent and the underside bottom has a few dings. I'm quite sure this was from dropping it. It is amazing that none of the glass ever broke. This is all considered minor and does not take away from the piece. The Postage Scale is signed on the bottom underside with the "Tiffany Studios New York" impressed mark. There is No Pattern number impressed into the metal.
This is a an extremely nice Postage Scale in very good condition. When these are found there is usually some kind of damage to the glass. Since there is glass all around the body of the scale and when these were dropped it was common for the glass inside to develop a stress crack. I am very happy to report that this one has No Cracked Glass!! I believe the Pine Needle Pattern to have been the first of the Fancy Goods Product lines made at Tiffany Studios. Those of you who are looking for an excellent example of the Postage Scale in the Pine Needle Pattern will be delighted with their purchase.
Tiffany Studios assigned a pattern number to their desk set pieces after 1902. Up until then they were only Signed "Tiffany Studios" or "Tiffany Studios New York" like this one. This piece was made early in the fancy goods line. It was made, circa 1899-1902. « Less
