This is a little gem of a wax seal! The mother of pearl is luminous, the silver fully hallmarked, and there is NO monogram. The seal is ready for your's! Dimensions: This seal is only 1 7/8" tall! It is over 1/2" wide. Condition: excellent. Marks: It has an old Paris guarantee mark, dating it to between 1819-1838. It also has a maker's mark; but it is partially rubbed, so I can't make it out.   « Less

The house of Bordon Freres in Belgium is one of renown and prestige. Notably, Armand A. M. J. Bourdon introduced Art Deco style to Belgium. And Bourdon Freres became the representatives for the wildly famous Wolfers Freres. Offered here, an impressive four piece tea and coffee set, bearing a count's crown and coat of arms. The set is unusually large, massing 3680 grams. And darn difficult to photograph such that you can actually get a sense of the grandeur of this set. The tray the set is photographed is itself immensely large. The set is utterly majestic; no other word suffices. It is decorated in Neo-Rocailles Japanisme style. Abundant use of the Japanese "wave", said to have influenced European art heavily in the second half of the 19th century. Both pots have exquisitely carved ebony handles. Condition is excellent; no flaws to note.   « Less

Exquisite repousse silver tea strainer decorated with the Greek mythological god, Pan, and several thematic elemeents consistent with Pan's reputation. Noted for his Pipe playing, there are pipes on the base of the handle. Also noted for his sexual acumen, there is a male and female figure on either side of the large 'lip' of the strainer. The figures are provocatively depicted lying down, in relaxed and somewhat exposed display. At the top of the lip' are a pair of gryphon's heads, beaks open, tongues out. And the head of Pan leers out from the base of the 'lip'. The figures are laid out on a textured ground resplendent with floral foliate decoration, lattices, acanthus leafs and rocailles. Very unusual and nicely made tea strainer, probably dating from the late 1800's, early 1900's. The weight of the strainer is a hefty 2.5 troy ounces! Please see photos for other dimensions and marks. The marks are partially rubbed, so the maker is not clear.   « Less

Nice set of 6 fruit knives crafted from antique Kazuka handles set with .800 French silver blades. The handles are decorated with fearsome warriors, armed and scowling on a textured ground, the upper portion mottled with stylized clouds. Not sure of the metal content of the handles. Looks like a coppery bronze with gold accents. The blades bear the marks of Gustave Marmuse, active in Paris in 1868, the guarantee for .800 silver and the royal arms for Prince Dmitri Olsoufief of Russia. Since the prince is more or less contemporaneous, it is likely the crest, as well as the monogram, was applied later. Condition is very good. There are no notable flaws. Prince Olsoufief is by reputation a discerning collector of fine silver and antiques; evidently the set benefited from excellent care. Dimensions: 8.5" in length, width a little over 1/2" at the widest. The term 'Kozuka' references either the blades or the sheaths of small Japanese daggers crafted and carried by Samurai warriors. The handles offered here are genuine antique Japanese sheaths. The quality is very fine.   « Less

Fabulous collector's set of French silver, that's .800 sterling, circa 1819-1838. The set of cutlery, a Christening gift set, comes in the original presentation box and is in very good to excellent condition! Beautiful strapped repousse decoration with floral, foliate and shell motifs. All silver marked with French guarantees for .800 sterling and with the maker's mark. In addition, the knife blade is marked with a silver medal award for the Paris Exposition 1878; my assumption is that the blade was replaced when the master-smith won this award. Imagine how cherished this set was! Over 170 years old and in such fine condition. Even the hasp on the presentation box works quite well.   « Less
