In contrast with the wood are brass swan neck pulls and a green leather top bordered by hand-worked gold tooling. The burl elm used in the making of this table displays a stunning grain and lustrous complexion, complemented by satinwood herringbone inlay. The edge and legs of the table feature the distinctive fluting that is characteristic of the Georgian style, while solid-brass feet and casters not only provide a lovely contrast to the burl elm, but also convenient movement. Two table leaves, each measuring 20 inches, may be added or taken out according to whichever configuration is convenient. The two ends of the table rest on sturdy, solid elm pedestals. The cherry shows a rich complexion and a striking grain, both of which look especially fine because they are treated to an elaborate finishing process that begins with hand-distressing and ends with a wax polish. The swan neck pulls, which are also made in England from solid brass, contrast beautifully with the lustrous cherry, while the elegant hutch sits firmly atop the base. Each drawer features hand-cut dovetails, and the potboard is crafted with faux planks and nail covers.
