Antique, Victorian Day and Night drop earrings. Made of both 9 and 14 carat gold, silver, set with turquoise. Made circa 1850-60. Length:2 inches including the loops, 1 3/4 More »
Antique, Victorian Day and Night drop earrings. Made of both 9 and 14 carat gold, silver, set with turquoise. Made circa 1850-60. Length:2 inches including the loops, 1 3/4 inches excluding the loops. Weigh 4.5grams - lightweight make them very comfortable to wear and is typical of early Victorian jewellery. Day and night earrings - the upper section / surmount in the form of a flower in 2 shades of gold. The gold in two layers of petals, the upper layer swivels around the central axis, which is set with a turquoise bead. This section can be seperated from the bottom and worn alone for a simpler, daytime look. The central section on a gold fan-shaped frame with sculpted layers of foliage enclosing another pretty flower, also set with a turquoise bead. Above the flower is a finely modelled silver bird with red eyes. Fine detail to 14k gold foliage and flowers. A set of gold elongated pear-shaped dangles suspended from loops at the bottom of the middle section. The loops seperating the sections allow swinging action of all parts as the wearer moves. The length of these earrings is classically elegant. The light weight makes them comfortable to wear despite their wonderful presence and appearance. Not only are the flowers and birds wonderful themes, but they are beautifully and thoughtfully designed with 3 precious metals that play off each other and add contrast and interest, making them all-the-more appealing. Very good condition. One earring has a tiny sign of restoration on the back, not noticeable from the front at all, and quite commensurate with the condition one would expect of a piece of this age and delicacy. « Less

Estate set of 13 - Baker's dozen - sherry glasses (suitable for white wine, cordial or liquor). Made in Ireland by Waterford. Each glass is approx 4 1/2 inches high. The bases of the glasses and the upper rims are all very slightly different in size as they are handblown and do not come out of a mould. Tops approx 2 3/8inches in diameter; base approx 2 inches in diameter. Beautifully cut with a sunburst faceted base, arching towards the faceted stem. The gently flaring bowl with diamond-cutting near the bottom and faceted foliage above that. Each glass is acid-etched with the WATERFORD mark. I did not find any damage to any of the glasses. « Less

Antique Arts and Crafts sterling silver two-handled bowl - a porringer or wine taster / quaiche. Made by Liberty & Co., England 1913. Measures approx 6 1/2 inches accross. 1 More »
Antique Arts and Crafts sterling silver two-handled bowl - a porringer or wine taster / quaiche. Made by Liberty & Co., England 1913. Measures approx 6 1/2 inches accross. 1 3/4 inches high. Weighs 165.1grams. Round bowl with handles on either side. May be a porringer or a wine taster or a quaiche (Scottish marriage cup that has a similar shape to a wine taster). Entire surface shows clear signs of handhammering. Unusual handles on either side are shaped, two-dimentional with a looped handle below that. Decoration is classic Arts and Crafts: highly controlled, simple repousse work and engraving. The latter in the form of leafy branches, reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts fascination with peacock feathers. The feathers are repeated in simple geometric design with a Celtic flavour that encircle the upper rim of the bowl. The peacock feather shape is clearly echoed in the decoration of the almost-flat handles. The bowl has an engraved dedication that reads ELIZABETH CHANDLER BINGHAM 1914. The bowl is hallmarked underneath: 3-diamond-shaped lozenges with L & Co for Liberty and Company; anchor for Birmingham; lion passant for sterling silver and the date letter O for 1913. Engraved number 5778 underneath the hallmarks may refer to a model number. Condition is very good. « Less

Antique opaline glass vase decorated with enamel, jewels and gilding. Made by Moser, Bohemia (now Czech Republic) 19th century. Approximately 3 1/2 inches high. Narrow base widens to a full-bodied roundness and ending in a small collared neck. The glass is soft amethyst in colour, very pearly opalescent. The upper area, around the shoulders and the neck are decorated: the neck with very rich gilding and piped enamel scrolling highlights, interspersed with actual raised jewels (made of glass, not enamel), in blue and red - like sapphires and rubies. The shoulders have a deep iron grey pattern, outlined in gold that could show Russian influence. Also decorated with piped scrolls and set with raised jewels. This pattern alternates with very delicate enamel flowers and minute gilded bubbles leading the eye towards the bottom of the vase. « Less

Antiqiue, sterling silver box. Made by the Gorham Company, circa 1880-1890's. Approx 3 1/2 inches high. Base just under 3 inches in diameter. Weighs 125.5grams. Box may have originally been used as a vanity item, as a tea caddy to store tea, or any other substance. Cylindrical in shape with a fitted lid, slightly smaller in diameter than the bottom. The entire surface of the bottom is luxuriantly decorated in fine repousse work, depicting a variety of flowers and foliage. The extent of the details and the magnificent workmanship are exceptional. The influence of Japanese objects of vertu can be seen in the design which strongly echoes their work, both in style and quality. Similar pieces were made by other companies, but rarely does one see such rich beauty. The beaded rims of the lid and fine monogram AG/AJ are the sole decoration of the lid. The quality of the monogram indicates the overall quality of the box. The box is hallmarked underneath as follows: the Gorham logo (lion, anchor, Gothic G); 655; STERLING. The box is in very good condition with no damage / restoration of any sort to be found. « Less
