Great condition—no chips, cracks or repairs—on this antique Zanesville Stoneware Company Arts & Crafts matte blue double-handled vase. As shown, this piece features a bulbous form with sinuous handles and is glazed in a warm cornflower blue. There are some glaze skips (one notable one to the top rim as shown in the first and third images) and little pops which are typical of Zanesville. This vase is hand-thrown with ribbing on the inside and made of yellowware clay. A great example for your collection, use and display. Dimensions: 7 ¾” wide by 8 ¼” tall.   « Less

This one’s a mystery to us. Up for sale is an unusual and impressive, period Arts & Crafts matte glazed art pottery vase. As shown, this vase is made of yellowware clay and has an entirely hand-glazed stylized scene of four doorways, each of which is flanked by tall trees. These scenes are done in a palette of Matte Green, Blue and Beige. The vase is hand-thrown with ribbing on the interior and signed in script on the bottom, though the signature is simply illegible (and my, how we’ve tried!). Still, a wonderful vase in mint condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The vase measures 5 ¾” wide by 7 1/8” tall.   « Less

Pair circa 1880-90 art glass vases, Pompeian Swirl, Stevens and Williams, rare gloss finish, shaded double amberina glass exterior with spiral ribbed pattern, cased/layered interior is opaque peach, dimpled sides, finely enameled/double color florals with raised gilt branches in the manner done at Stevens & Williams, handworked scalloped rim. 7” tall, 3.5” wide/4” across corners. Condition – excellent, no nicks or chips. 278 - These fine vases has a “double amberina” glass exterior that fades from amber in the middle to rose colors at rim and base with an opaque peach interior lining. - This is not a typical Pompeian Swirl “pearl” glass item…possibly being an experimental or similar fine art glass from the Victorian period. It has a gloss ribbed surface rather than the acid treated and flattened surface of typical Pompeian Swirl. - Stevens and Williams, England introduced their pearl satin glass as “Verre de Soie” developed by Frederick Carder in 1886 featuring the trapped air bubble that extended from the base to rim of each article.   « Less

For sale is a lovely vase made by The Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The Pattern is called "Pinecone" and it is done in their Blue background glaze. This pattern and color is one of Roseville's most desirable to Collect. The Vase is a nice Cabinet Size as it stands 6 1/8" tall and is 4 3/4" in diameter outside handles measurements. The foot has a diameter if 2 1/2". The Vase depicts very realistic handles in the form of branches joined to a Pine Cone with Green Needles protruding from the Cone. It is accented with 2 applied Handles in the form of a Branch to give this piece that realistic appeal. The Glaze colors are very pleasing as the Background is a 2 tone Blue with the Pine Cones themselves being Brown. The crispness of the mold is evident in the pictures. The Pine Needles that Protrude from the Pine Cone are a Sage Green. This was Frank Ferrell's most popular design that he ever created while working at The Roseville Pottery Company. In fact, the company would have had to close it doors if it wasn't for the success of this line in the Mid to Late 1930's. The Pinecone line was considered the most Popular Line ever made at Roseville Pottery and that is still evident today. There are 4 colors that Pinecone Line was made in and they are Blue, Brown, Green and Pink. Pink Commands the Highest Price and is Rarely seen. Blue Commands the next highest price with Brown and Green not too far behind. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The piece is signed on the bottom with the Incised "Roseville" mark along with the mold number 839-6". There is also a large number 7 or the letter L depending how you are looking at it. This is more than likely the finishers marks. This is a quality piece of art pottery that will enhance any art pottery collection, especially those of you who collect Roseville Blue Pinecone. For sale is a wonderful Arts and Crafts Design Vase made by Hampshire Pottery of Keene, NH. The shape is known as a "Squat" Form. The Vase is a nice size as it stands 2 1/4" tall and is 5 3/4" in diameter at its widest point. The mouth or opening of the Vase is 2 1/4" in diameter. The Vase has a wonderful Deep Matte Blue Glaze that is pretty uniform throughout. The top lip has nice mottling along its opening. The Vase displays a very pleasing Arts and Crafts design of what looks to be a Greek Key Pattern or an American Indian Motif. The Bottom edge displays that beautiful ground down, smooth round bottom edge. This is a trademark of Hampshire Pottery. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The vase is signed on the bottom with the raised mark "Hamhshire Pottery." in Script letters along with the letter "M" in a Circle to Honor his Wife "Emoretta". She was the daughter of the founder, James Scollay Taft. There is also the mold or pattern number "19/2" in raised relief as well. Please note the misspelling of Hampshire, where the small letter "p" should be there is a small letter "h". The small letter "h" has a longer tail than normal. I have had only 1 other piece of Art Pottery by Hampshire Pottery with this misspelled signature mark in my 38+ years as a collector and dealer. Hampshire Pottery started producing Matte Glazes in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main Competitor Grueby Faience of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown. This piece can be dated based on the "M" in a Circle mark. This was the mark that Cadmon Robertson used during his tenure with Hampshire Pottery. This vase was made, circa 1904-1914. Matte Blue Arts and Crafts Designed Vases are becomming very hard to find. It seems that the collectors really hang on to these beauties The uniqueness of this Glaze and Design would make this a Great Addition to one's Hampshire Pottery Collection. It would also look outstanding on that Stickley Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased pleased with their purchase.   « Less

For sale is a lovely piece of pottery made by the Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The piece is a rectangular shaped Vase perfect for displaying on a narrow shelf or mantle. The Vase measures 8" tall and is approximately 6" in diameter. It measures 5" deep and has an oval outside rim measurement of 4 1/4" by 3 3/8". The Vase is finished in the infamous Standard Glaze that was responsible for Rookwood's rapid rise to fame in the late 1800's. The Vase displays Daisies and Black Eyed Susans glazed in Fall colors of Yellow to Pumpkin Orange for the petals. The Flower Centers range from Mustard Yellow to a Deep Brown. They are painted on the upper portion of the vase set against a light moss green blending into a deep Green, Blue background.The bottom half of the vase has embossed vertical ribbing with the transition of the Pumpkin Orange to Deep Green. The Vase rests upon four squat feet to give some added height. There are two rope twisted handles that are applied at the shoulders and joined at the neck of the flared out rim. This is a beautiful piece of pottery that would look lovely with a bouquet of fall flowers such as mums for a holiday centerpiece or focal point. The Vase is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no nicks, chips, cracks or dings. There is some light crazing to the Vase but it is difficult to see unless under a bright light and does not detract from the value. The piece is signed with a reverse RP logo and seven flames above the RP which represent the year of manufacture which was 1893. There is also an impressed 195 which is an early shape number and the letter W which stood for the use of White clay on this particular piece. This is a very early piece of Rookwood Pottery and it is amazing to still be in such great shape for being almost 120 years old.   « Less

For sale is a nice Arts and Crafts shaped planter made by The Zanesville Stoneware Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The planter Stands 2" tall and is 5 3/4" in diameter. The inside top opening measurement is 4 5/8" in diameter. The planter has a wonderful Arts and Crafts shape of a Mission Style Bowl or Planter. The Glaze on this piece is just outstanding. It is very Similar to Weller Pottery's "Matte Cucumber Green" Glaze. This is the Green everyone is looking for!! The Planter is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks, or dings. The only issues are very minor. There are some glaze pin pops and some irregularities in the making. You can also see the mold line. This is factory and Not Damage. The piece is unsigned but it does display that Zanesville Sandy Bottom Beige Clay. This is known as shape number 78 in the Zanesville Pottery Catalog pages and was called a Flower bowl. This is probably one of the most sought after Glazes in the Zanesville Stoneware Pottery Line. This would look just outstanding on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase. For sale is a lovely piece of pottery made by the Peters and Reed Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The shape is a Vase and this glaze is known as Landsun. The Vase is very tall as it measures 11 1/2" tall and is 4 7/16" wide at the base. The outside rim measurement is 2 9/16". The Vase has an earth tone decoration that resembles flames and blends from one color glaze to the next. It starts as a light mustard yellow at the top bleeding into various shades of tan and brown. This is accented with a cobalt blue blending into green and cream at the middle portion of the vase. It then has another band of the deep blue with brown in the middle of these flame type shapes and is finished off at the base with blue green to a sandy brown. The piece is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The piece is unsigned which is typical of this line. It is guaranteed to be Vintage Peters and Reed from the Landsun line. This simple form and glaze combination would look great in Arts and Crafts decor. Peters and Reed Pottery (1897-1919) was bought out in 1920 and the name was changed to Zane Pottery of Zanesville, Ohio. They still produce some of the same styles as Peters and Reed. They changed from Red Clay to White Clay Products in 1926. Frank Ferrel designed this Line for Peters and Reed. He was employed there from 1906-1918. In 1918 he left Peters and Reed to work for Roseville Pottery. The piece was made Circa 1910-1915.   « Less

For Auction I have a Wonderful piece of Art Pottery made by The Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The Pattern is called "Dogwood II" and it is done in their Smooth Version. The Shape is the Highly Collected and most desirable "Jardinière" Shape. The Jardinière Stands 6 1/4" tall and is 7 1/2" in diameter. The Jardinière has a very nice Smooth Olive to Moss Green Glaze that is accented along the bottom with a Brown under glaze giving this piece that organic feeling of the Ground or Dirt. The Vase Displays Embossed almost Ivory Dogwood Flowers Clinging to Black Vines along the top portion of the Vase. There is a Cluster of Three Dogwood Flowers with a 4th on one side and Two Horizontal and 1 on the side on the back side. The Black Branches connect each Cluster of Flowers. The Glaze along the top edge displays wonderful mottling. The detail is just wonderful as the Flowers Show their Raised Centers of Pistils. The Jardinière is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The Piece is unsigned and some of these have been found with Roseville's Early "RV" Ink Stamp Signature Mark. This is a quality piece of Art Pottery made by Roseville and would enhance any Art Pottery Collection. This is known as shape number 590-6" in The Roseville Pottery Catalog pages. For sale is a Lovely piece of Art Pottery made by The Van Briggle Pottery Company of Colorado Springs, Colorado. This Vase is known as a "Onion Bulb" Bud Vase and is Shape number #645 in The Van Briggle Catalog Line. The Vase Stands 4 1/4" tall and is 3 3/8" in diameter at the widest point. The Vase is made in one of Van Briggle's most highly collected glazes known as "Turquoise Blue". The Vase depicts an array of Onion Bulbs surrounding the bottom of the piece. Each one of the bulbs has a swirling stem rising up from the Bulb in the shape of a Question Mark. The end of this displays a Onion Flower Bud. The soft lighter matte blue glaze with a deeper matte blue over spray on the Bulbs gives this piece that earthy realistic appearance. The piece is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The inside of the vase shows minimal wear and it appears that it saw very little use. There is crazing with this piece and is considered the norm with the Turquoise Blue Glaze. There is also an area to the right of the top stem that is very light in the glaze. This piece is signed on the bottom with the Impressed Van Briggle Double A Logo Mark along with "Van Briggle" in large Freehand Letters with "Colo. Spgs" underneath it. The Piece has a shellac bottom on tan dating it from the 40's-60's. This is a wonderful form in excellent condition. Those of you who collect Arts and Crafts Design Pottery will surely welcome this addition into your collection. I am sure it will look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase. This piece was made circa 1940-1960   « Less
