This is a set of 6 upholstered swivel armchairs from Knoll International. These are verified original Eero Saarinen designed chairs from his original 1957 design. They have been expertly cleaned (base and shell) and have had the swivel refurbished with new inner bushings and lubricated. These were originally purchased in the mid 1970's. The upholstery on these is in good condition with no tears, rips or holes. There are a few stains on some and there is general wear as expected for a chair of this era. The cushions have good foam in them (not hardened), and the Velcro is intact. The chair shells have no cracks. The bases have a few chips on the outer rims, as expected from general use. The bottom of some of the chairs are missing sections of the nylon ring that was glued underneath. This would not be noticeable if the chair was on carpet. If you were to use these on a hard floor, I'd recommend adhesive felt. Three of these chairs have the upholstery wrapping around the rim of the chair shell and have a fabric strip glued to the underside of the shell. The other three chairs have the upholstery tucked under an outer shell. Please review the pictures for these details. These chairs will only be sold as a set, do not ask to split them up. Each chair will be expertly packed in it's own box and shipped via freight. You can save additional freight charges by having a commercial address with a loading dock to receive these. Eero Saarinen (USA, 1910-1961) Through his work as an architect and designer, Eero Saarinen was a prime mover in the introduction of modernism into the American mainstream. Particularly affecting were the organic, curvilinear forms seen in Saarinen’s furniture and his best-known structures: the gull-winged TWA Flight Center at John F. Kennedy airport in New York (opened 1962), Dulles International Airport in Virginia (1962) and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri (1965). Saarinen had a peerless modernist pedigree. His father, Eliel Saarinen, was an eminent Finnish architect who in 1932 became the first head of the Cranbrook Academy of Art in suburban Detroit. The school became synonymous with progressive design and decorative arts in the United States, and while studying there the younger Saarinen met and befriended several luminaries of mid-century modernism, among them Harry Bertoia, and Charles and Ray Eames. At Cranbrook, Saarinen also met Florence Schust Knoll, who, as director of her husband Hans Knoll's eponymous furniture company, would put Saarinen’s best designs into production. Wonderful mid century leather lounge chair and ottoman up for sale. I am not sure who the maker of this chair is, but I can tell you that it is made very well. It does not have a lable on it. The leather is a tan-dark mustard color and the wood is beautiful in what looks like a walnut. The frame is in great condition with only some scratches on one side. It is structurally very sound with no breaks or cracks. The leather is also great with the exception of the seat having wear on it.   « Less
