This chest looks as old as it is, and will add much to the atmosphere of a large room or a large stone entry way.
Condition: The back two legs are replacements, and all legs are shorter than they were originally and slightly uneven. The inside bottom boards are later. The top has been rebuilt and reconfigured using two of the original boards (about 60% of the surface area). The lock is a French period chest lock, but not original to this chest. It appears to be in good condition, but there is no key. The chest is very strong and sturdy.

Height 21", width 38", depth 19".
The front is of pleasing proportions with a good balance between carved and uncarved space. The style of the gothic tracery panels are alternating in sequence, adding interest to the piece, yet tying in well together by all having the typical gothic arches in the lower section. Gothic chest of this small size are rarer than their larger counterparts, and few have survived.
Condition: Except for some repairs in the lower parts, the chest is in very good condition for its age. The panels are especially well preserved, with the carving being crisp and undamaged. The base and feet are later replacements (which is typical for early chests) and there are some repairs to the lower extremities due to old wood worm damage. The lock is early but not original to this piece, and the lock plate is missing. The top and its hinges are all original and in good condition. The till in the interior retains its original lid. Includes old key. « Less

Height 21", width 55", depth 15".
This coffer is unusual in its long and narrow size, making it well suited for a hallway or other location where depth space is limited. It also doubles well as a bench. Its weathered appearance would fit in especially well with a rustic, country decor.
Condition: Nearly all original and "untouched", including the weathered finish. The hinges are early replacements, probably from the 18th century. General wear, cracks, and scrapes from age and use. Top slightly warped. « Less
