Set of 6 Dinner plates Lenox China Prairie Blossoms. Lenox China Prairie Blossoms is a versatile pattern that will work with a wide range of decors. These plates were hand-crafted. In 1889 the Ceramic Art Company, which was creating dinnerware pieces that reflected the Romanesque, Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic styles (and eventually moved on to Art Nouveau) was founded by Walter Scott Lenox and Jonathan Coxon, Sr. Mr. Lenox, who was very artistically inclined, had studied master potters since his youth and worked as an apprentice at both Ott and Brewer and Willetts Pottery in Trenton, NJ. About the time of the Ceramic Art Company''s inception, Belleek of Ireland permanently closed its doors. Migrant ceramic artisans flowed into America, giving new life to the struggling pottery industry and providing an opportunity for Ceramic Art Company to acquire two of Belleek''s artisans. Walter Scott Lenox founded the new Lenox, Inc. in 1906. His defining moment arrived in 1918 when President Woodrow Wilson asked Lenox, Inc. to produce china for the White House, a real coup since most of the previous White House residents had chosen French-made Limoges patterns, this was a first for an American ceramics company! The Prairie Blossoms collection of fine china combines beautiful floral motifs on black border. Manufacturing history: From 1992 to 1997. Very good condition! Status: For Sale Reference#: LENOX_001B Condition: Very good Year: 1996 Country: USA Maker: Lenox Width: 11 in. Found among the items of a collector and museum curator of English porcelain, this very rare set of 12 Pratt plates. These plates date from the late 1800's and are in overall very good to excellent condition. There are 2 with famous English architectural structures and environs; 1. Church of the Holy Trinity and 2. the seat of the Duke of Wellington. There are 4 with classical ruins and 6 with pastoral themes. Each is marked as shown in the first and last picture. I find no crazing, hazing, chips or flakes, chips, cracks. There is some minor loss to one small area of the rim of one plate (that is color loss). And several of the plates have some minor loss to the banded color areas of the plates. One of the plates has a significant loss; please see photo number 8.
Dimensions: the plates are 8 5/8" in diameter. « Less

These are absolutely pristine and utterly elegant plates. On a white ground, the plates are edged with cobalt blue enamel and decorated with lots of gold trims. In the center of each plate is a chevalier's, or knight's,armorial crest with the legend "Sans Criante". Sans Criante translates as 'without fear' or fearlessly. Each plate bears the mark of G. Boutigny & Cie., Palais Royal, Paris. Catering only to the elite, G. Boutigny & Cie operated on commission and decorated porcelain with armorials, crowns, crests, and coats of arms for society's elite. Here are 6 such plates. Measuring 9 5/8" diameter; I would consider these luncheon of salad size. Certainly they are as large as some dinner plates, of course. Condition is pristine. The bold pure design of these plates, with scalloped edges, makes them very distinctive. These plates are fabulous! « Less
