Tiny little plate, early 19th century Georgian period. This is a salesman's sample, which would have been carried around to show customers what they could order, as carrying full size plates would be prohibitive. The pattern is a pale blue chinoiserie design, with pagoda and fir trees. It measures 90 mm diameter (just over 3.1/2 inches). Excellent condition. « Less

Mason's Ironstone plate, Regency period circa 1810-1820. Imari colours and Willow Pattern scene with Chrysanthemum border. Heavy ironstone, with Masons backstamp and also that of the retailer: Thomas Higginbotham, 11 & 12 Wellington Quay, Dublin. The rear of the plate has little hand-decorated sprigs round the edges as per the Chinese style - I think to hide the kiln-rest marks. Plate measures 26.5 cm diameter (10.3/8 inches). Condition: No chips or cracks, has some wear to the pattern in the centre of the plate and has knife marks. A pretty display plate though, with good age and weight. « Less

32 large antique dinner plates bearing a central crest and motto. "The Dragon's Crest is to be Feared" (Metuenda Corolla Draconis), motto of the English Tempesta family, originally a war cry or slogan. No idea where these plates came from, whether it be once a stately home, a hotel, or even a regiment. Navy blue borders with gold band. The rear has the stamp of the retailer, A.B & R.P. Daniell, Wigmore St, London. Dates from circa 1860 to 1917, when Daniells closed. Plates are 26cm diameter. Condition: some of the plates have wear to the crest, but overall, there is a good selection of excellent plates. Damage is as follows: 7 excellent plates, all crests etc intact; 12 with slight wear to crest and printed areas; 10 worn crests, but plates still good. 2 with small chips, 1 with faint hairline star crack to centre. Fifth photo shows an example of a badly worn crest. Amaze your dinner party friends, astound your enemies. The Old Family Crest. « Less

Very nice Imari patterned ironstone china plate. Lots of cobalt blue, indian red and gilding. Printed mark to the rear: G. L. Ashworth & Bros, Hanley. But the crest is the Royal Arms mark of Hicks & Meigh for the Regency period, early 19th century. Possibly Ashworths were the retailer? Although Ashworths made ironstone china after 1862, also adopting the name Masons Ironstone China, after Masons themselves ceased manufacturing at this time. Plate measures 26 cm diameter (10.1/4 inches). Excellent condition. « Less

This dark blue transfer plate from England is 9-1/4" in diameter. There are four plates, and you may purchase any number from 1-4. I also have one bowl in the same pattern, 10-1/8" in diameter. Each plate is marked on the back Phoenix/N.Castle. After much research I found the pattern name "Wild Rose" in the Dictionary of Blue & White Printed Pottery 1780-1880, Vol. I, page 399 by Coysh and Henrywood. The name obviously refers to the border decoration. The pattern was extremely popular from the late 1830's to the 1850's and was made by many potters. This particular version was made by Bell, Cook & Co., Phoenix Pottery, Ouseburn, Northumberland and dates to about the 1840's.
"The print shows Nuneham Park house on the left, the seat of Earl Harcourt.... The main feature of the pattern is, however, the rustic bridge with the lock-keeper's thatched cottage. These were part of a riverside walk planned by Capability Brown.... Nuneham Courtenay was one of the most famous of all 18th century gardens."
Two of the plates are in excellent antique condition, no chips or cracks. The other two plates are in very good antique condition; one has a small rim chip that only shows on the back, and the other has a small chip on the foot on the back. The listed price is for one plate in excellent condition. Please inquire about a discount in price and shipping, if you purchase more than one plate. « Less
