A rare American Federal Three Part Mahogany Dining Table, probably Philadelphia, circa 1800,comprised of dense and solid "Island" figured top, veneered skirt, three pedestals More »
A rare American Federal Three Part Mahogany Dining Table, probably Philadelphia, circa 1800,comprised of dense and solid "Island" figured top, veneered skirt, three pedestals with saber legs ending in the original brass casters. Although this form was produced in significant numbers in Great Britain, it is a relatively rare form of American furniture. The secondary woods, by microanalysis, are ash and white pine, which clearly indicates the Continent of origin. The table was most likely made in the Philadelphia area, as it has a history of ownership in a family of prominence in that city, however, it may have also been made in the New York vicinity, or even possibly Charleston. CONDITION: The table retains all its original lock, hinges, and the majority of the original late eighteenth century hand-wrought screws. The finish is very early, possibly original, and has been conserved with several coats of shellac to the top and an application of microcrystalline wax. DIMENSIONS: Height 27 1/2", Length 102", Width 44 1/2" « Less

A superior English Regency Rosewood Games Table of the highest ranking in terms of condition, form, and details of remarkable finesse. The table incorporates the best design More »
A superior English Regency Rosewood Games Table of the highest ranking in terms of condition, form, and details of remarkable finesse. The table incorporates the best design elements, exotic woods, and materials of the English late Neo-Classical style that occurred between the years 1811, when George Prince of Wales became "Regent", that is to say King of England, in all but title, and 1820, when he succeeded as King George IV, after the death of his father, George III. The basic form of the table appears in the publication Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, published in 1806 by George Smith, Brewer Street, Golden Square, London. Numerous related tables and case pieces reside in both Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, and The Victoria and Albert Museum. CONDITION: Exceptional. No repairs or breaks. The legs have been re-enforced at some time in the table's history with steel braces on the underside. The table retains what appears to be the original baize wool playing surface. Original brass casters with wheels. INSCRIPTIONS/LABEL: The table bears a paper label on the underside which is printed and reads: "BARTLETT'S DEPOSITOR HASLEMERE". Haslemere is a town in Surrey, England and is close to the border with both Hampshire and West Essex on the major road between London and Portsmouth, south-west of Guildford. The table also bears a chiseled indentation on the pocket drawer bottom which reads: 2075 LO/n/t AE/n/t } pr While this mark is undetermined in its nature, "AE" is most likely a Latin inscription meaning small temple or castle, and the further initials are likely related to the table's original owner. DIMENSIONS: Height 28", Width 35 3/4", Depth 17 1/2". MATERIALS: Rose, King's, and Zebra woods, ormolu mounts of "honey-suckle flowers" and "Anthemion" (A Greek word for flower) derived from C.H. Tantham's Etchings of Ancient Ornamental Architecture drawn from the Originals in Rome and Other Parts of Italy during the years 1794, 1795, and 1796, 1799, 1800, as well as star inlays. Brass and steel, wool baize playing surface. « Less

circa: 1880 width: 24 height: 38 length: 26 This lovely pair of antique oak armchairs was hand-crafted in Victorian England around 1880. Today, the oak remains as beautiful as ever, with a deep, lustrous complexion and a pronounced grain that form a lovely complement to the red and cream floral upholstery. Add to this the small carved lion finials, carved joints, and brass brads, and the result is a remarkably attractive pair of armchairs that would look fantastic in any setting. They have sustained some very minor wear to the oak, including a small separation in one of the arms, but otherwise these chairs remain very beautiful and sturdy, so overall condition is very good. « Less
