Impressive 32"(81.50cm) fine hand turned rich and heavy brass ALTAR CANDLESTICK. Truly imposing, this candlestick will fit in most any period or decor, and is sensational in a grouping of brass fireplace tools, candlestick collection, or near fireplace as a single statement. This almost three foot tall late 19th century find is marked 'Hecho en Mexico" and is signed 'MOSY' Additional photos have been posted, candlestick has been restoration cleaned, with many highlights left. Really shows off the quality and age of this piece. The candlestick holds a 2" wide candle. The artist has imitated nature with remarkable sensitivity to capture the features of a ram with magnificent curly horns. Though this exquisite sculpture certainly qualifies as a work of art, it also served a practical function, perhaps as the cover of a pouring spout. This somehow does not seem an earthly ram--its splendor lifts it into the realm of myth and legend. Circa 1890-1910. Rare, rustic smoking stand in the Adirondack Style. Unusual for all it's detail, this stand is definitely a cut above the crowd, with a covered humidor for cigars or cigarettes, an ashtray, a match holder and striking plate, all surrounding a figure of a moose The body of the stand is beautifully figured, turned wood, with three turned legs, all with the rich patina and glow that is only achieved over the passage of time. The statue of the moose is white metal that has been painted brown with a red mouth and darker brown eyes and hooves. The body of the moose looks as if it has had some touch up painting in the past. Over-all excellent condition and finish, a real prize for an Adirondack or rustic furniture collector. 38" tall x 11" diameter. Price 1200.00   « Less
