Antique Cup and saucer with signed handpainted scene of Napoleon and his army after the painting by Ernest Meissonier (1815 - 1891), The Campagne de France, 1814. Artist signature J Missant. Believed to be done in the studio of A LAMM, Dresden , one of the greatest porcelain houses in Europe during the 19th century. Saucer measures a little under 5 3/4 inches in diameter and curls up to a height of 3/4inch; cup is just under 2 inches high. Deep green ground, decorated in heavy gilding with foliage, shells and raised jewels. The cup has a large, rectangular reserve opposite the handle. It is surrounded by a gold border with raised gilded ''jewels''. Within the reserve is a handpainted scene, taken from the very famous painting by Ernest Meissonier, depicting Napoleon and his army, on horseback. It is artist signed on the lower right, J Missant. Both cup and saucer are marked underneath with two marks: a pair of blue crossed arrows and a dark rose. The latter mark was used by A Lamm, Dresden, who were famous for their superior and beautiful decorating (painting and gilding), on porcelain, often done on blanks from other factories. They also used a mark similar to the Meissen crossed swords at one time. Condition: both cup and saucer are in very good condition, with no damage of any sort and no restorations. A knowledgeable person wrote me:cup was amde by Boudois & Bloch painting studio, Paris around 1890 - 1900. Identification are the 2 arrows. Lamm had a lamb with Dresden as his mark. One more note: Germans do not portrait Napoleon, since we we were in war with him for years. It is a french piece of art. Many thanks. Royal Vienna artist signed handpainted, gilded cup and saucer with a continuous frieze of children / youths courting, playing music and flirting in 18th century style. Made in Dresden, Germany, 19th century. Saucer is a tad under 5 inches in diameter. Cup is 2 5/8inches high. Stunning cup in very rich gold with forest green near the bottom. Swan handle with elegant and sinuous curve. Only the bottom shows the dark green ground, and this too is decorated with the richest, most beautiful gilding. Even the inside of the cup is gold. The circumference of the outside of the cup has a ring of youths / children in various romantic pursuits, all beautifully shown in pastel colours. Between and around them are raised gold flowers. The saucer with matching green ground has a delicate, lacy pattern in the center and a pattern of gold spriggs of flowers over the rest of the surface. The cup is artist signed ULLMER. Underneath in black script appears to be JANZ and a blue underglaze beehive mark. The saucer also has the blue beehive mark. Condition of cup is excellent - no chips/cracks/losses of any sort. Blue and white blue lily blossom cup, saucer and desert/cake plate, made by Royal Worcester, England 1889 and 1890. Plate is just under 7inches diam; saucer is 5 1/2inches diam. Cup is 2 1/2inches high. Very pretty pattern with panels of various blossoms and flower in shades of blue. Gilt highlights and rims. Each piece has Royal Worcester blue underglaze mark as well as red handwritten numbers. Cup and saucer have date code for 1889 and plate has code for 1890. (O and a). Condition is good with slight yellowing, natural with age - no chips/cracks to be found. Each piece is beautifully decorated with children''s toys: a toy soldier stands at attention behind a blond doll, a drum, building blocks with the letters of the alphabet, a rocking horse and teddy bear. Very early English ceramic chocolate set consisting of a chocolate pot with 4 cups.Made early 19th century or even earlier. Pot is 6 1/2inches high. Cups are 4 1/4inches high.Very beautiful pot in white with simple gold trim, handpainted with scattered flowers. Delicate painting of this sort is more typical of the 18th century. The cups are goblet shaped withmoulded raised patterns of a simple loop and circle. Similar delicate painting above it.Much of the gilding is lost. Chinese Famille Rose cup and saucer in the Mandarin palette, made circa 1820.Saucer is almost 5 1/4inches in diameter; cup is 2 5/8inches high.Saucer with high sloping sides, almost like a bowl (to facilitate drinking directly from the saucer as was common at the time). Profuse enamel painting covers both cup and saucer. Borders of flowers with various Chinese symbols and caligraphy enclose figural scenes: Soldiers and servants in a palace, a woman admiring the landscape view; men sitting under a tree flanking a large bowl of fish; people strolling and sitting in landscapes. Condition is very good. Considering the age and delicacy of the pieces, there is very little wear. There are 2 tiny fleabit chips on the rim of the saucer, magnified in the photos. Just like my amazing Napoleon portrait cup & saucer, here is another rare Meissen portrait cup and saucer. This one has a portrait of a lovely girl holding a bow and posy of flowers. The colors in the painting are so vibrant and the quality of the painting is as amazing as the Napoleon cup and saucer. The Meissen factory did not make better paintings than these two cups and saucers. This girl''s portrait cup is of course first quality, Meissen factory decoration. Condition : The cup is near perfect with only slight wear to the gilding. The entire painting is perfect with no scratches or wear. The saucer has some areas of wear, but much of the gold is still present. Meissen crossed swords marked for early 19th century. Diameter of saucer is 6inches. Diameter of cup is 3 3/4inches .
