Here is another beautiful, large decorative old tile by the Flint Faience Company of Flint Michigan. Graced with a Persian inspired design, the coloring and glazing are top notch, as is the norm with this company. It is a shame they closed down in 1933 to make spark plugs. The condition is very good, with one small chip to one corner, and a thin layer of mortar on the back. Status: For Sale Reference#: 02062916 Condition: very good Year: 1920''s Country: USA Maker: Flint Faience Height: 9.25 in. (23.49 cm) Width: 9.25 in. This beautiful pattern was certainly inspired by William Morris. Pretty yellow-centered white daisies alternate with sprigs of olive leaves on the creamy yellow background. The back is marked in ink with T. A. Simpson. The condition is fair. It does have wear on the face and edges and flecks of mortar on the back, but it is still a beautiful design on a very usuable antique tile. I have others in this design if you need more than one. A fine, clear, deep green glaze is the predominant color of this special tile. The design is tubelined, which means the image is all drawn by hand, much the same as a decorator would a cake. It is a long and laborious process, and makes each tile unique. The design on this one is of twining stems, flowers and leaves. It is a very pretty image on a fine old English tile. There is one glaze flake to the bottom edge. The back has the impressed marks ''ENGLAND, 13, 5''. Combined shipping is always available at Bungalow BILL! View this item as a fireplace surround! The celedon green of this tile is beautiful. The softly raised design makes the glaze pool and darken around the stylized image of the flower. The back only has the letter ''P'' as a clue to the maker, most likely Pilkington. I have a number of this design available, and you can contact me for quantity prices. These would look wonderful as a fireplace surround or in a backsplash. The condition is excellent with minimal surface scratches. This is a very nice example of the glazing techniques used by the American Tile companies. The color has a chrystalline and iridescent quality. The ''oil spotting'' of the darker tan plays well against the gold ground. It is made from a thick cream colored faience clay and is 1/2 inch thick. There are two small corner chips, and the impressed mark peeks out under a thin layer of grout on the back. This is a charming little gem of a tile. The pearly white glaze crystalizes at the edes of the design and is complimented by the glossy black background. I have been unable to find this in a catalog, but the coarse white clay leads me to believe that this is from one of the Ohio companies, perhaps Owens or Cambridge Wheatley. I have a number of this design available if you are considering a project. They would look great interspersed in field tile. The condition is excellent. Here is a nice large tile by Royal Delft. Picturing an eagle with it''s wings and talons outstretched, the chrystalline tangerine glaze sparkles in the sunlight. This is a tile that would look great in an arts and crafts interior surrounded by mission furniture. The back has the inkstamps Holland, which would indicate this tile was made for the American market. The Pardee Tile company was the major distributor for these tiles in the 1920''s. The condition is very good. It has a rub to one corner and a short stable firing line on the right side.
