Exquisite Art Nouveau 18k gold mermaid pendant. The mermaid is holding a European cut diamond measuring .15 points. The diamond is H color VS-2 clarity. There are 29 old rose cut diamonds further accentuating the high relief sculptured mermaid pendant. The mermaid is nude in the water holding the diamond at her midsection. There is a shell and stylized waves covering the area below her waist. She has long flowing hair and is beautifully sculptured. The top of the pendant is incised with an old 18k stamp. The back of the pendant has an unusual floral and scroll design with rays emanating to the ends of the back. This is an exquisite design. It is a period Art Nouveau piece in excellent condition. Beautiful Art Deco 18k gold and Chrysoprase earrings. The backs of the earrings have European hallmarks dating circa 1930's. The Chrysoprase are large gem quality measuring more than 4 carats each. Chrysoprase is a stone associated with the astrological sign of Gemini. The Chrysoprase, like the Agate, is a variety of quartz and takes its name from two Greek words meaning "golden leek," in reference to its colour, which varies from an opaque yellowish green to a very light dirty white-green. The colour has a tendency to fade from long exposure to the light and sun, but can be restored if the stone is dipped in a solution of nitrate of nickel. The finest specimens come from Silesia, and when the stone was in demand it used to be customary to close the mines for every two years out of three. According the Albertus Magnus, a Chrysoprase fomed the Amulet of Alexander the Great, and Chrysoprase was much used by the ancient Greeks and Romans for signet rings and cameos; and also by the Egyptians, who set it with lapis lazuli. The virtues attributed to the Chrysoprase were that it imparted cheerfulness, making the heart glad by removng uneasiness, protecting its wearers from evil dreams and the assaults of demons. It also bestowed all kinds of blessings on its owner, giving assiduity in good works, and taking away all greedy and covetous desires, bringing success in new enterprises, and true and faithful friends: and it was also worn as an Amulet against rheumatism and gout. The Agates and Chrysoprase stones will not, however, be fortunate for those born during the time that the Sun occupies the Houses of Virgo and Pisces. The earrings are in excellent as new condition. Large beautiful antique cameo brooch or pendant with pearls set in 10k gold. This beautiful cameo may be worn as a brooch or on a chain as a necklace. It has a moveable swivel loop that can be raised or lowered, to put a chain thru and where as a necklace. It also has a pin on the back making it wearable as a very beautiful brooch. What's really unusual about this aside from the superb quality of the carving, is the unusual setting the cameo is in. The top of the cameo has sculptured 10k gold grape leaves that end with a pearl set flower. Starting just above the portrait's shoulders is a row of pearls. There are 32 pearls along the border of the setting they're all matched in color and size with exception of the largest one above her head. The one's bordering the portrait measures 2-1/2mm each. From top to bottom the brooch measures 2-3/8 inches. From side to side it measures 1-3/4 inches. Weight 16.1 grams. The cameo depicts a beautiful 18th century dressed lady wearing a pearl necklace, flowers in her hair, and a dove resting on her shoulder. She is beautifully carved and is in excellent condition.
