This antique tile is hand painted in soft colors. Depicting a woman with her laundry basket dropped on the ground, a young boy and girl stand in front of her. Did they bring home a bad report card? I''m not sure what to think of the scene, but the tile is well painted and a pretty example. The condition is very good with a few small edge flakes. Here is a fabulous Art Deco iron tile top table from California. Four eight-inch tiles are glazed in wonderful oranges and browns in the cuerda seca style. The ballooned iron legs meet in the center in a square, which mimics the top. The tiles were made by D&M of Los Angeles and are firmly attached to the base. The condition is excellent, with very little wear, however there are a couple dings on the face of the tiles as shown in the detail pictures. There are no cracks. Covered in the crackled glasslike glaze colors of gold, brown and Persian blue and orange, it would make a great statement in your Mid Century Modern interior. A designer signature is in the lower right that reads Simou. The back has the impressed mark for the company. It has a small rub to the cuenca wall on the flower in the upper left, and a tiny flake off the back edge.
