Truly rare and showing a medical oddity! Ancient bi-chrome vessel from Colima, West Mexico, circa 200 BC/200 AD. Redware pottery figural in the form of a human with severe medical abnormalities; head painted red and showing signs of possible retardation, body with arms and legs going off in basically the wrong directions, very distended stomach, spout emerging from back. He appears to be a "hunch-back" with one of his arms growing out of his chest. Each hand has three "claw-like" fingers. The left leg appears to end in a stub with no foot. The piece is spouted similar to most Colima dogs and with a very nice "burnished" finish. 7"H x 7"W x 7-1/2"D, completely intact with no restoration. It is quite an unusual effigy. Category:Colima Material:Pottery Dimensions:7"H x 7"W x 7-1/2"D Condition:Intact « Less

Forgive me, but I come at this completely from a male perspective and must wonder what was the motivation behind the "artist" who made this piece? Here is a large pottery flat of either a young female who is trying to show the world - Hey World, I have Boobies! - or, conversely, an older woman who says to the world - Hey World, I still have my boobies (albeit quite saggy)! Either way, this female figure is decorated with ear-spools, necklace, armband and headdress, wearing a skirt, hands supporting her not-so-perky small breasts. A very unusual piece, but quite charming! Ca 300 to 100 BC, West Mexico. She stands 7-3/4"H x 2-7/8"W, and is intact/choice condition. Custom museum-quality stand included but not shown. Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, ca 300 to 100 BC. Pottery figure of a broad-shouldered female, she "supports" huge, pendulous breasts and wears an ornate necklace and elongated earlobes. Her slightly swollen abdomen suggests pregnancy, or perhaps fertility in general. 4"H, (not counting museum-quality stand), intact and in near-choice condition. A very stylistic example!
