This is a large, antique Black Starr & Frost sterling silver repousse flowers tea ball. It is 1.8" high, 1.8" in diameter. It is marked Black Starr & Frost/Sterling on the bottom inside rim. It is inscribed J.C.Y./1905 on the front. It is hard to identify the third initial. It weighs 35.8 g. or 23 dwt. It is in good antique condition with just a couple of minor shallow dings. This ornate repousse sterling silver tea ball is decorated all over with vertical bands of masks or faces, possibly lions or the North Wind, alternating with decorative floral motifs. It is about 1.45" in diameter, 1.5" high and weighs 21 g. or 13.5 dwt. It is marked Sterling on the inside rim of the lid, which makes it American. It is hard to believe that there is no maker's mark. The tea ball dates to about 1898. The condition is very good, no breaks, tears or major dents. The lid closes securely with the little ring in front. There are one or two minor, light dings which are masked (to make a pun) by the repousse. This is a beauty. Sterling silver and tortoiseshell dressing table set in fitted case. Two clothes brushes, two hairbrushes and a hand mirror. Hallmarks are for Birmingham 1921, and the makers are Docker & Burn Ltd. Beautiful pattern to the silver and tortoiseshell backs. All hair brushes have good quality original bristles in very good condition - one clothes brush leaks bristles a bit, being a softer variety, the other seems good. The only item which has a modicum of wear is the mirror, which has a foxed area to the left side, and a few spots to the other edge. The tortoiseshell handle has a little bit of discolouration from having been held. Mirror measures 27 cm long, the hairbrushes are 26 cm long. The set comes in its original fitted case - the case is a little the worse for wear, having one clasp off, one hinge broken, and the internal satin straps frayed. Overall, this is a beautiful survivor of the opulent 1920s.   « Less

Edwardian period folding fruit knife, hallmarked for Sheffield 1909. Mother of Pearl handle, prettily engraved with an urn full of fruits including a pineapple, with flowers and foliage. Silver initials panel (blank). Maker is Henry Williamson Ltd, Sheffield. The knife comes in its original case with silk and velvet lining and Moroccan leather exterior. Folded, knife measures 8.3 cm long. Open, it is 14.3 cm long. It is in excellent condition - commonly, these knives have a kink in the blade, or a bent tip to the blade - but this one is straight and true.   « Less
