Set of Four Pennsylvania House Chippendale Style Dining Chairs
Pinned joints, Drake feet, Solid Cherry, Late 20th Century
Item # 120010EWW08
Visit us at www.sillafineantiques.com for a full slideshow of pictures as well as a large selection of other fine furniture!
This is a set of four well crafted Pennsylvania House dining chairs, each crafted after the original designs of Philadelphia Chippendale using solid cherry hardwoods and pinned tenon-mortise joinery. The crest is cupid-bow in form, splaying upward in sharp well formed ears, the Queen Anne style splat identifying this as a chair after the transitional period around 1760. Each skirt is carefully scalloped, flowing symmetrically into the carved returns and cabriole legs over drake feet.
In terms of late 20th Century reproductions, these are quite superior. With a nice airiness about the overall design, they flow with close proportion to the originals. The set is incredibly sturdy, strong and fully functional, ready for regular use in an active household. In overall outstanding condition, this is a set you will enjoy for a lifetime.
Measurements:
(arm chairs) 25 1/2" wide x 22" deep x 39 3/4" high; 19" high to seat
(side chairs) 21 1/2" wide x 20 1/4" deep x 38 3/4" high; 19" high to seat

Fine Set of Four American Solid Birch Hepplewhite Period Dining Chairs
One Arm Chair, Four Side Chairs, New England, circa 1800-1810
Visit us at www.sillafineantiques.com for a full slideshow of pictures as well as a large selection of other fine furniture!
These are an exceptional set, executed entirely in solid birch primary woods during the height of the Federal Period. The crest has the form of a cupid's bow, sharply rounding at the top, flaring up at the ears. The stiles are solid birch, square and backswept from the foot through the seat frame, rounding along the back up to the crest rail, flaring slightly before joining the crest. The pierced splat is vasiform, stunning in it's simplicity with a circle at the center and S-curls completing the splat at the crest. The entire back is flat at the face, rounded along the back for a smooth profile. The arm chair has two arms that are fully molded, each flanking a broad suede trapezoidal slip seat, the seat frame carefully carved to receive the seat with a thin channel along the perimeter. Tiny half round fully original blocks still lock the seat frame together from the inside, the front two blocks notched of a solid block, the back blocks with a squared corner. The front legs are plain and tapered, stretched with a box stretcher, the middle stretcher joining from the underside with a notched dovetail visible from the underside.
These are a simply stunning set for any serious collector of the American Federal Period, with glowing gorgeous birch grains visible throughout. The birch brings an incredible warmth to the chairs, each with a fine rubbed oil finish and in outstanding condition. Being structurally firm in all joints for full functional use, this is a set that can be actively enjoyed without fear or hesitation, while also being an investment that can be treasured in your home for many generations to come.
Measurements:
Arm Chair: 23" wide x 19 1/2" deep x 38 1/2" high; approximately 18" to seat
Side Chair: 19 3/4" wide x 18" deep x 37 3/4" high; approximately 18 to seat
