Rare antique bronze letter box made in the early 1900s by Rochester, New York company Cutler Mail Chute Co. Used in big city multi-story office buildings, hotels, apartment buildings, and high rise public buildings, mail chutes were a letter collection device patented by James Goold Cutler in 1883. Letters were dropped from a building's upper stories and collected at a receiving box located on the ground floor, such as this letter box. The original approved patent No. 284,951 stated that each box must "be of metal, distinctly marked U.S. Letter Box," and that the "door must open on hinges on one side, with the bottom of the door not less than 2'6" above the floor." The Cutler company made approximately 1600 receiving boxes from 1883-1904, and there are more than 900 still in use in New York City. This letter box is a beautiful and unique piece of US history salvaged from a high-rise in St. Louis, Missouri. The box would make a fabulous storage cabinet, cocktail cabinet, or statement piece. The mail box is in very good antique condition with verdigris spots across the top, as pictured. The letter box measures 22" wide, 41" tall, and projects 12". The letter slot opening measures 5-7/8" wide by 2" tall and the mailbox door measures 11-1/2" wide by 19-3/4" tall.   « Less

A fantastic antique boxed newel post with a beveled newel cap, circa early 1900s. This newel is crowned by a stepped finial, with the upper section featuring carved foliate panels. Recessed panels accent the middle portion, while the lowest section features a solid box shape. This box newel post has the expected wear as pictured. The newel is 8-1/4" wide by 73-1/4” tall.   « Less

A wonderful reclaimed antique door with carved Eastlake details, dating from the late 1800s. An arched pediment featuring sunburst detailing connect to two grooved columns that flank a half glass light; Surrounding this unusual textured glass window pane is a band of bead and reel detailing. Dentil molding sits below the window and crowns a multi-panel configuration with geometric grooved details and roundels . There is the expected wear to the door, as pictured, and it is has been stained a rich brown. This salvaged Eastlake door measures 35-1/2” wide, 83-7/8” tall, and 1 3/8” thick.   « Less

Wonderful antique American stained glass window with geometric details, dating from the early 20th century. This window features a clear granite glass background with a design of arches, amber slag glass diamonds and rectangular panels below. A stripe of green granite glass with pink slag glass runs through the width of the window. There are no cracks or breaks to the glass though the window is slightly bowed. The frame has an aged finish with the usual wear and chips, as shown. The window measures 20" wide and 23-1/8" tall with a frame 1-3/8" thick, and the glass measures 15-7/8" wide and 18" tall.   « Less

Striking antique American stained glass window with gorgeous multi-colored slag glass and a stylized flower. This window, dating from the early 1900s, is composed of a green and pink slag glass center, bordered in beautiful amber slag. The window's focal point is a stylized flower made of purple slag glass with amber granite glass accents. There are no cracks or breaks to the glass and the frame has an aged finish with the usual wear and chips, as shown. The window measures 21-1/4" wide and 23" tall with a frame 1-3/8" thick, and the glass measures 17-1/2" wide and 17-3/4" tall.   « Less
