For Sale is a beautiful Art Glass Wine Goblet made by Phoenix Art Glass. The Glass is hand blown from a pipe and has an Art Nouveau appeal to it. The wine goblet measures approximately 8 3/4" tall and is 3 1/4" wide at the rim of the glass. The base of the glass measures approximately 3 1/4" wide.
The Wine Goblet depicts a beautiful pulled feather decoration on a white or calcite looking background. The pulled feather decor starts at the base of the stem and rises all the way up to the cup and gives the illusion of leaves cradling the goblet. The colors of the feathering has an organic appeal with hues of brown and green accented with gold and blue Aurene highlights over the decoration. The base if the giblet is also a gold Aurene. The foot of the Goblet has a polished and ground pontil along with some of the underside edge of the foot. This was done for the goblet to sit evenly. This would make a lovely gift to a wine lover or for another special occasion. This can be ordered in pairs if one desired however this auction is for only the one pictured above.
The Goblet is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. There is a freehand signature etched in the glass which reads "Carl Radke". There is also a foil label that reads "Phoenix Studios Carl Radke". This is a quality piece of contemporary American Art Glass and I am sure even the collector of early art glass not be disappointed with their purchase. « Less

For Sale a beautiful Art Glass Scarab Paperweight. The Blue Aurene Iridescent or Luster is just outstanding. The Scarab is 4 3/8" long, 3 1/8" wide, and is 1 1/2" tall. The Paperweight Displays a Scarab with a very detailed Ribbed back that is separated by a smooth shell behind the head. You can see beautiful Blue/Pruple iridescent along with some hues of Fuchsia. The Scarab has a metallic look, yet it is glass. The Base color of the Glass is a very deep cobalt blue.
Tiffany Studio's produced smaller versions to decorate their large Floral Leaded Glass Shades. Tiffany also used a version similar to this in some of his Table Lamps and Shades. Instead of being a solid piece of glass the inside was hollow as to allow for a socket to house a bulb to illuminate it. True Glass was first developed by the ancient Egyptians to imitate the semi-precious stones used extensively in their artwork. It was often cast in shapes such as the Scarab for use as Amulets and Good Luck Charms. The Egyptians associated the Scarab Beetle with the creator god Khepri, the symbol of Birth and Eternal Life. This Art Glass Scarab is an example of the original Egyptian Scarabs.
The piece has minimal wear to the bottom and is considered Excellent to Mint condition. The paper weight has no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The piece is unsigned and I believe it is of contemporary make. This is a must buy for anyone who collects Scarabs or Paper Weights. The paper weight weighs about 1 1/2 pounds and I am sure should if a gust of wind came along you will not loose your paper work. Purchase with confidence as this will enhance any Art Glass Collection. « Less

For Sale is a lovely vase made by Thomas Webb & Sons of Amblecote near Stourbridge, England. I would call this shape a double handled squat form. The Vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 3 1/4" tall and has a diameter of 5" in diameter outside handles measurement. The bottom of the vase has a diameter of 2 5/8".
The base glass is green in color. The exterior Blue Purple Iridescent treatment on the glass makes it look more like a Teal Green base Glass. This Vase has wonderfully applied ear shaped handles with deep scalloped tails. The top rim rolls out and comes all the way back in and rolls over and is fire polished. The vase displays a very beautiful rainbow colored iridescence with Blues, Purples and Fuchsia tones throughout. It is very European in design and shape.
The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. One tail looks to have been nicked at the very bottom. When you turn the vase upside down it appears to be factory because the tails are exactly the same length on each side. This Vase has a counter sunk polished Pontil. This is the sign of a quality piece of Art Glass. The Vase is very clean inside and shows virtually minimal signs of use. The outer bottom border shows minor scratches. It appears to have been a Cabinet piece most if not all of its life.
This is a Lovely cabinet Vase that is not so commonly found. This style of vase was made to copy the Roman bronze pieces that were often dug up and were about 2,000 years old. You Thomas Webb collectors will welcome this fine addition into your collection. This Vase was made during the Victorian Era circa 1878-1885.
Here is a little bit of history about Thomas Webb's Bronze Ware Vessels.
Bronze glass. This is an iridescent glass made by Webb. It was exhibited in Paris in 1878, and there was a dispute with Richardsons on the iridescent patent. Richardson continued making it's own iridescent glass, despite saying that it would stop. Webbs bronze was referred to as Green Bronze in their pattern books, so it has been suggested that the body of the glass is green. Sometimes the vases had applied handles, snakes and lizards, lion masks, trails, plus etched decoration, hieroglyphics and gilding. « Less

The Mdina Glass factory was founded in Malta in 1968 by Michael Harris (1933 – 94), an ex- RCA tutor, who was inspired by the scenery on the island, and the colours used in the glass reflect the sun, sea and sand of the landscape. Due to the political situation he left in 1972 and set up the Isle of Wight Glass factory. Since 1981 the Mdina factory has been run by Joseph Said, one of the original apprentices, and is still producing high quality glass. The pieces from the early years are highly desirable, particularly those signed by Michael Harris himself.
