What we have is a beautiful professionally refinished and reapolstered fainting sofa fold out couch bed that dates back at least to the mid to late 1800's. Stories passed down through generations of my wife's family has it being brought here with the family from Germany in the 1880's, that it had already been in the family for a long time and actually dates back to the 1700's. The woodwork is an intricate carved walnut. The upolstery is now a rich blue velvet over modern padding (the original piece was actually padded with straw). We have proudly had this piece on display off the entrance to our home but are trading down to a smaller home and will have no room for it.

Original Finish. This rare Victorian
Revival Sofa is attributed to John
Jelliff, Newark, New Jersey.
This is an elegant Victorian Sofa that is
highly carved featuring busts, crests,
ribbons, and tassels in the elaborate
back. The front has four fancy turned
legs. It is typical of John Jelliff's
wonderful creations.
The frame is in good original condition,
but does need to be reupholstered.
There have been some minor frame
repairs.

A CARVED ROSEWOOD SOFA WITH LOOPING DESIGN AND COFFEE TABLE
Attributed to J. and J.W. Meeks & Co. (Circa 1840-1860),
Comprising a Sofa and a Pink Coffee Table: The Sofa with an
Oval Tuffed Back in Center Separated by Carved Wood and Tuffed Wings On Each Side of Oval with Velvet Upholstery.
The carving consisting of scrollwork and a looping design and the center section surmounted by a gadrooned molding centering a floral carved cartouche, all above an upholstered back flanked by molded and outward scrolling arms over an upholstered velvet seat above a serpentine seat rail embellished with scrolled cartouches, on molded cabriole legs fitted with castors with a matching pink coffee table.
