A gorgeous large candleholder from a mosque or sanctuary. 17th century or earlier. Profusely engraved with solar-like designs and turbo designs. Islamic calligraphy all around the top surface. It has a very old, working life, lead repair at the junction of the stem and base where the two sections were joined when it was made. (Probably cracked or started to separated in this area over time.) There are also 4 old brass rivets that fill holes around the base where it was probably secured to an alter or stand. About 13” tall x 13” wide. Absolutely stunning piece of early Islamic artwork!

Rare set of two Antique 18th century Turkish Ottoman Islamic daggers. DETAILS: The hilts are of cylindrical form, made of several individual pieces of very high quality More »
Rare set of two Antique 18th century Turkish Ottoman Islamic daggers. DETAILS: The hilts are of cylindrical form, made of several individual pieces of very high quality rust-brown tone Jade, with a fine granular texture, and inlaid in gold with stylized palmettes and zig-zag band motifs, with a pommel and base in a turban form, enclosed by short horn cross- guards. Curved double –edged blades of Damascus steel, formed with a medial ridge, damascening on both sides of the forte, in gold koftgari with a scrolling motif.
In its unusual scabbard formed of turtle shell, and parchment terminating to an iron spike as an additional weapon.
Please note that the hilts of the daggers are made of rust-brown tone jade, not green Jade-Nephrite. Most of the jade hilted Islamic daggers, including Turkish or Mughal, have hilts carved from green Jade - Nephrite. This hilt is made of high quality rust-brown tone Jade, which is very rare, so the stone was traded as an expensive precious stone in small pieces, instead of big chunks as green nephrite, that is the reason why the hilt is made of several pieces.
MEASUREMENTS: The overall length in the scabbard is 35 cm (13 3/4 inches).
CONDITION: One of the horn quillon broken of, the cylindrical jade on the center is chipped.

Rare Antique Turkish Ottoman sword Kilij with 17th century blade and 18th century solid silver mounts. DETAILS: A rare 17th century, or earlier, massive and broad curved More »
Rare Antique Turkish Ottoman sword Kilij with 17th century blade and 18th century solid silver mounts. DETAILS: A rare 17th century, or earlier, massive and broad curved single edged Turkish blade of kilij form, cut on each side with a long shallow fuller and yelmen made of Damascus steel Wootz. A hilt comprised of a grip with Rhinoceros horn grip-scales, rising to a bulbous pommel in a characteristic Turkish Ottoman style, with a hole for the suspension tassel, bounded by pairs of silver washers, and enclosed by fluted silver straps, a silver crossguard with bud quillons. A leather-bound wooden scabbard stitched with spiral wire, and mounted with a large silver locket, a chape embossed and engraved on both sides with linear frame and foliage, and two bands with loops for suspension. One of the bands is stamped with Imperial Ottoman silver hallmarks tughra (probable of the Mahmud I (Sultan of the Ottoman Empire 1730 to 1754), but worn out, so it is uncertain) and a small square assay mark.
This is a very rare early Turkish Ottoman blade, similar blades are in the collection of the Top Kapi Saray Museum, and are dated to the 16th -17th century. During the 18th - 19th century period time, most of the 16th -17th century old Turkish blades were remounted to the new fashion of mounting, with the Pistol shape hilt, so even in Turkish museums most of the ottoman swords have later mountings. This sword certainly has been remounted, due to the reinforcing metal zigzag band mounted on the ricasso of the blade under the crossguard.
REFERENCES: Examples of almost identical ottoman blades dated to the 16th -17th century, and mounted in the 18th -19th century mountings, can be seen in the Topkapi Sarayi Museum Istanbul, and also in the Askeri Museum Istanbul Turkey, and other collections.
REFERENCES 1) “Islamic Swords and Swordsmiths†by Unsal Yucel 2) “The Arts of the Muslim Knight – The Furusiyya Art Foundation Collection†by Bashir Mohamed
CONDITION: Some age cracks in the horn scales, the silver mountings are worn with small dents.
MEASUREMENTS: The overall length in the scabbard is approximately: 96.5 cm (38 in). The overall length without the scabbard is approximately: 94 cm (37 in). The length of the blade is approximately: 79.5 cm (31 1/4 in).
The Turkish Ottoman kilij sword was mainly favored by the famous Turkish Ottoman elite cavalry Sipahi, but was also very admired by nobility of Balkan states, and Eastern European countries such as Hungary, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine.

SOLD Antique 19th century Turkish Ottoman military Sword. A sturdy slightly curved narrow blade, cut on each side with a full-length fuller. A brass pistol shape hilt, and a More »
SOLD Antique 19th century Turkish Ottoman military Sword. A sturdy slightly curved narrow blade, cut on each side with a full-length fuller. A brass pistol shape hilt, and a bulbous pommel, in a characteristic Turkish Ottoman style, with a loop for the tassel. In its original leather-bound wooden scabbard, mounted with a large silver locket, and chape, embossed and engraved with foliage and trophies. Since the scabbard of the sword has no bands, or loops, for suspension, and only a loop on the pommel for a tassel, and the bottom of the chape is crushed, this indicates the possibility that the sword was used by a Turkish Officer as a walking cane, or swagger stick.
CONDITION: Minor splits on the joins of the brass pommel, and a trace of old soldering, possibly the loop is a later addition. The brass mountings are worn with minor splits.
MEASUREMENTS: The overall length with the scabbard: 87.6 cm (34 1/2 in).
