Superb vintage Baker Duncan Phyfe style dining table with 12 matching Chippendale style chairs and Hepplewhite style sideboard. This Baker dining set was purchased new 25 years ago and hardly ever used. Each piece was hand made from the finest matching mahogany. There are twelve chairs, consisting of three arms and 9 sides. Ten have matching blue silk damask material and one side and arm have a matching silk stripe. The table has two leaves, two center pedestals and banded inlay around its top. The sideboard is serpentine with straight tapered legs, and has all over inlay. The chairs each measure 38.5 inches to the top of their backs, 19 inches to the top of their seats, and 27 inches top of arms. The table measures 72 inches long by 42 inches wide closed, and has two 18 inches leaves for a total of 108 inches.The sideboard measures 69.5 inches long by 27 inches deep in the top center, 42 inches high. One of the most unusual dining tables we have ever owned. I strongly believe that this rarity is a product of the Merklen Spiral Furniture Company of New York. That fine 19th Century maker specialized in American Aesthetic Movement furniture in a Moorish Taste. Most of the pieces they produced were small furniture such as pedestals and plant stands. I have never seen another dining table in this style. Solid mahogany throughout, the top is a rounded corner square, with a highly detailed apron. The base is turned legs ending in claw feet, connected by a curved and incised rail on which is mounted four spiral spindles. The center is supported by an additional two turned legs. This fine example of top quality Late Victorian American furniture is all original, down to the original case for storing it's four original leaves. We have lightly re-polished the table top since these pictures were taken to clean and even the original finish, and can take additional pictures if desired. Everything else is in very good, completely original condition. 44" x 44" square x 29 3/4" tall, closed, 4 original leaves, 12 1/2" wide, each, 94" long fully extended.   « Less

Fine, walnut banquet table in an unusual size and shape. This extra large oval table has seven leaves, which can be used in several different ways to change the table's size and shape. This table looks best with the leaves in and I believe it was designed to be left open. One 18" leaf is designed to be used by itself. The two additional support legs need not be used until the table is opened 9' or more. The carved, claw foot pedestal is large and yet graceful, with sinuous, flowing lines. Beautifully restored. 57 1/2" x 67 1/2" top x 30 1/2" tall closed. Opens to 12 1/2' (150").   « Less

The table measures 131 inches long, 36.5 inches wide, and 30 inches high. It was purchased in 1975 from "The Oak and Walnut Shop" located at 98 Crawford Street in London. The dealer had purchased it from a monastery. We have all the original documentation available for review.The table was appraised by Sotheby Parke Bernet Inc., NY, on April 30, 1980, and also by John Hazard Forbes in West Chester, PA, on March 7,1980.   « Less
