Large red amber resin figure of a Chinese gentleman seated in a highbacked chair with dragon arm rest ends. He wers a long string of large beads. Figure measures 21 cm high by 11.5 cm wide and 8.25 cm deep. One small bruise to base at rear (see photos) otherwise extremely good condition. Very decorative. Weighs 1069 grams.   « Less

This is a pair of Chinese cloisonné covered vases from a garniture. I believe that the waisted shape is unusual in Chinese cloisonne. The main color is a blue turquoise with a cloisonné lattice pattern covered with undulating flowers. They are about 12" high, and one of the vases is slightly higher than the other. The bottoms are marked China, which means that they were made between 1890-1920. They are in generally good antique condition, and there are no cracks or dents. There are a few nibbles in the cloisonné near the base on one vase and the rims of the lids, pretty common in antique cloisonné. There are also a few chips in the enamel on the insides of the lids, which do not show when the vases are on display. I have a couple of other cloisonné pieces that came from the same garniture, illustrated in the last two pictures. Please feel free to inquire, if you are interested. Strange object, I have no idea what it is. It came to us along with a curved stem sort of opium pipe, same metal, same designs (see also in this category) - but this piece is either part of something, or maybe something missing. It is a long stem, with a wooden ball (with a side hole drilled into it) at one end, and a removable metal cap at the other which exposes a wooden tube with a central drilled hole. The centre of the item has a metal cage affair, and you can pull the item apart here to expose a metal blade and a much shorter small round metal probe beside this. Maybe the blade is to clean out the pipe ( if this is what the whole thing is). Or to cut up the opium?? It could possibly be part of the other item we have - if you blow through the hole in the wooden bowl, you can feel it in the blade cavity, but not at the other end of the tube. Whole thing measures 39.5 cm long and the wooden ball is 5 cm diameter (and has two chips off the wood flange at the top). We're selling this on behalf of a local charity, so have no history or explanation for it.   « Less
