This is one of four by the same hand - carved and inked onto an oval hollow piece of bone. All four were once mounted on a bamboo pole, but this has long gone, so selling separately. Item measures 11.7 cm long, 3.5 cm wide and 2.5 mm deep (4.5/8 inches by 1.3/8 inches by 1 inch). A little ragged around bottom end - the bottom was once glued to its neighbour. Some dirt. Carved and inked scrimshaw style oval bone piece. (Once part of four which were mounted end to end on a bamboo shaft - now loose and being sold separately). Two men, one figure on each side. Jagged ends to the bone, and some cracks - appears very stable though, quite solid. Measurements: 12.7 cm long by 3.2 cm wide by 2.4 cm thick (5 inches by 1.1/4 inches by just under 1 inch).   « Less

Beautiful pattern to this 3 dimensional metal batik stamp, (called tjaps or chops), These Javanese stamps are used for applying wax in the art of batik. This one is a traditional pattern, and measures 19 cm by 17 cm. Very good condition. A true work of art. Extremely good quality large Japanese puzzle ball and tall stand. Beautifully carved ball with black-eyed dragons and foliage carving to the exterior. Inside are at least eight diminishing size balls (possibly ten in total) - however, these are carved in fine pierced work of stars and circles, and there is some breakage to the work, it appears to be only two of the balls. The tall stand with carved figure at the base is made in five or six sections - there is a finely carved little fret-decorated cylinder about two thirds of the way up the stem, and there is a break below the cylinder where it joins the stem above the figurine. A good professional restoration here would easily solve this fault. (The quality of this piece deserves more than a quick home-done glue job). Whole would measure 22 cm to the top of the ball cup and the ball itself is 6.2 cm diameter. (8.3/4 inches by almost 2.1/2 inches).   « Less

This Japanese bronze tripod incense burner or koro dates to the Meji Period, 1868-1912. It is 5.5" high, about 5" wide at the handles. The surface is decorated with raised birds, flowers including chrysanthemum, bamboo, plum blossom, butterflies, highlighted in a gold alloy. The handles are elephant heads. There are marks impressed into the base of the burner and different marks written on the inside of the lid, but a Japanese friend was unable to definitively read them. Traditionally used to burn incense, there is residue from use on the inside. The koro is in very good antique condition, no dents or tears. There are some spots, particularly on the bottom, but I have not attempted to remove them. I acquired this piece and others from the estate of a long time collector.   « Less

Old Japanese incense burner or koro. Champ elevee or cloisonne. Stands on tripod legs and has mid green enamel interior. No damage to the body, but one of the legs has been either banged or straightened at the base where it joins the body.You can see a loss to enamel inside the pot and around the very rim of the leg where it joins the bowl. Interesting piece. Probably late Edo or Meijii period. 20 cm high by 19 cm wide handle to handle.   « Less
