Searching for a Georgian wine coaster? Here is one of today's highly sought after George III early Regency wine coasters by the well known John Roberts & Co., Sheffield UK 1807. There is a broad curved fluting to the body, an egg and dart border, and a central sterling button in the turned wooden base.The underside has the original padding. It is marked around the rim of the base: John Roberts & Co.,the maker) , the date mark S for 1807, the Standard mark ( the lion passant )tells you the item is silver,and the Duty mark , the head for the current king or queen. Width 5 3/4" Traditionally, the hallmarks are 'struck' using steel punches. The problem with traditional punching is that the process of punching displaces metal, causing some distortion of the article being marked. Also to insert the wooden base that silver had to be worked after the punches had been placed. The re-working usually reduced the clarity of the marks and sometimes removed them. The date mark S has been moved over the town mark, the crown (Sheffield). John Roberts worked in London and Sheffield. At the time of the date mark S ( 1807) he was working in Sheffield.   « Less

This is an exotic sterling silver hand hammered Arts & Crafts water pitcher ,vase form with flat bottom, sides that flare out then taper in at the top to slightly flaring neck with a high arching spout, It has a hollow handle with shield attachment to body and a heavy applied rim. It is marked with the Gorham mark, sterling, A 5183, 5 pint. It is 8 3/4" to the highest point, width 9" from handle to spout. 27 troy oz.tells you it is a heavy pitcher. Dated 1917 under the spout. AN original antique silver set C. 1900. This Tiffany sterling silver flatware pattern, traditionally eighteenth century French style, was designed by Charles T. Grojean for Tiffany & Company . The patent date is 1885, being introduced by Tiffany the same year. This sterling silver is based on eighteenth century French design, with a shell both front and back. It is a double die-cut antique silver pattern, that is, the same design is on both sides of the shanks. There are few original antique Tiffany sterling silver flatware sets available today . Read about this wonderful antique flatware service for twelve, English King pattern, date mark M 1869-1891. It is dinner size,in a new special mahogany chest featuring continental size racks to accommodate the wider silver plated blades. Each piece has the same early shaded Old English monogram which tells you that the set is an original one not an assembled one, that it is an antique one as in those days it was family custom to place their initials on their silver. .
