This is a gorgeous pair of Rococo Revival bergere arm chairs of the Louis XV taste from the last quarter of the 19th Century, each with a brilliant gold re-gilded finish. They carefully replicate each other in overall design while maintaining distinct variations in every single carving, adding visual interest and complexity. The smaller chair was crafted with perfect proportions to still be a full size chair despite it's diminutive stature, though that being said, both chairs do have slightly short seat heights at 14-15" versus the typical 17-19" seat height. The crest is a wonderful display of the carver's skill, each with bold shell formations interlaced with foliage that flows out along the molded rail, each arm curving slightly outward with rounded hand holds over cabriole arm supports, wrapping somewhat around the comfortable floral upholstered seat. The chair apron nearly mirrors the crest, again a fantastic shell carving highlighted at the focal point; the chair rests over four cyma-curve legs terminating in sharp scrolled french toes.
This is a magnificent pair of chairs for any formal sitting room, fully functional and comfortable for regular use in the home. They are a perfect pair for any serious decorator or anyone passionate about the Louis XV style, adding warmth and beauty without dominating a room. In outstanding visual condition, this pair is a classical design, one that never never goes out of fashion, and well cared for they will last through several generations.

This is a simply gorgeous set of ten Antique English Georgian Chippendale Style dining chairs from the late 20th Century, crafted by the furniture firm of E.J. Victor. They feature pierced splat-work, topped by a scrolled crest and wonderful fretwork molding. Eight side chairs and two arm chairs, both of which have wonderful flowing arms that curl in carved handholds, each flanking a trapezoidal slip seat permanently affixed to the frame. The chairs have veneered aprons and rest over cabriole carved legs with acanthus knees curling in scrolled toes. The back legs have a rear cant with pointed flat feet. The underside has a brass plaque noting they are part of the Newport Historic Collection and another plaque from E.J. Victor.
They are in simply stunning condition, each entirely hand carved and crafted like all E.J. Victor furniture. The company was started in 1990 and immediately began producing elegant furniture reproductions of benchmade quality. Works of the Newport Historic Collection by this firm maintain their value and are an excellent investment, garnering high four and low five figure prices at auction houses even a few short years after their production. Sturdy and strong throughout with incredibly thick solid wood secondary construction, these are a set that are built to last.

This outstanding pair of Louis XV Style Bergere Arm Chairs from the last quarter of the 19th Century. The thin well formed exposed fruitwood carved frames step in along the crest, flowing into the half-wings that make up the tufted barrel back of the chair. The full arms are upholstered along the top, curving into reeded handholds over curving arm supports flanking a thick and comfortable loose cushion. The aprons are partially upholstered, stuffed over the frame and edged by a curvy molded apron. Each leg is cabriole, carved with floral decorations along the knees and terminating in soft french toes. The backs are exposed with a single mid stretcher supporting the frame, tenoned at the top and bottom to give outstanding strength to the overall structure of each chair.
This is just a delightful pair, something any decorator in the Louis and French Country taste requires for completing living and sunroom designs. Soft and comfortable with a nice mellow green upholstery, sturdy and strong in all joints, this is a pair that can be enjoyed regularly and practically without concern about fragility. They have a wonderful finish and absolutely glow in the right light.

This is a fine original Hoopback Windsor with a high polish finish and a very nice overall presentation. Interestingly, this chair features significant use of Cherry woods, an uncommon wood considering all of these surfaces would have been painted. The solid board shaped plank seat makes excellent use of the ribbed grains of the cherry, highlighting them down the center of the dished seat. The crest is a steam bent rail of hickory that tenons through the seat, uniquely shaped with a certain lean, and while at first glance it appears that the hoop back has twisted from shrinking and expanding of grains over time, it appears to have been designed like this. In measuring the spindles, the left spindles are clearly higher than the right spindles, giving additional lift to the hoop and the appearance of twist. One can speculate about why it was crafted like this, but in any event it lends to some visual interest. The spindles are smooth tapering shafts of hickory that join through the crest rail with a split wedge through-tenon. The chair rests over four plain shaped maple legs, framed in an H-form stretcher with cherry sides and maple mid-stretcher. This is a fun little windsor for anyone looking for a nice, clean and visually interesting piece in strong, sturdy and fully functional condition.

This is a very rich pair of French arm chairs, upholstered in a wonderful pink and cream fabric with floral and foliate along the cream ground. They have wonderful work throughout, starting with the richly adorned crest featuring a twisting tied ribbon, pierced and flowing along the crest, flanked by pyramidical finials on either shoulder. The frame is molded, flowing down into upholstered arms that curl in reeded hand holds over cyma-curved arm supports that join the apron and flow directly into the turned and tapered reeded legs, a turned baluster on the top and turned rings above the stump toes.
In simply outstanding condition with a distressed finish that has been regilded at some point during the 20th century, this is a pair of chairs that you can use functionally with your family on a regular basis. They are well formed and crafted and are an absolute visual delight that bring life to any formal setting.

This is one of the finest pair of Rococo Revival chairs we've had the honor of carrying. They are incredibly unique and so striking visually, with an overall square profile that lends a modern flair to the design. The carving execution on the chairs is simply second to none, every aspect of the chairs carefully and tastefully carved with perfect cuts.
The crest and arm rails feature repeating oak-leaf carved designs that wrap over the edges of the rail, two ovular oversized acorn finials capping each corner. The arms are supported with a wonderful gallery of swollen-tapered spindles, each carved delicately with a spun-rope formation. These flank a comfortable upholstered seat of striped cream and burgundy velvet, stuffed over the frame and in overall excellent condition with only minor rust-color spotting (see the slideshow for closeups) along the edges.
The medallion back is truly a work of art, an intensely carved solid panel of mahogany, the swirling acanthus formations of Louis XV and Chippendale clearly influencing the overall theme. The square arms round out in the rounded handholds, carved with a fan-motif along the sides and join the frame with a curved arm support, carved with a different variation on the oak-leaf design over stop-fluted square legs that change shape beneath the apron into a swollen-taper leg with spun-rope carvings over wonderful lion paw feet. The lion paws have seen some life, each of them repaired and fixed, lacking a bit of finish luster and still with loss. The back legs mirror the front, but terminate in plain ball feet.
This pair is truly a statement, exceptional in every way and executed with a crispness and depth of carving that is breathtaking. With well preserved red mahogany color, clearly protected from excessive sunlight exposure, covered in a rich polish to bring out the deep patina, these immediately catch your eye in a magnificent way. They would be an outstanding pair of library chairs, placed side by side flanked by a pair of matching tables, or used almost as a settee in a small living room side by side. They set the pace for any room they become a part of, and will simply be a treasure wherever they are in your home.
Measurements:
27" wide x 22" deep x 33 1/2" high to finials
19" high to seat; seat area dimensions 19 1/2" deep x 23 1/2" wide

This very fine Fauteuil features a bright blue floral damask upholstery, replaced and in nearly flawless condition. The finish is simply glowing, recently re-gilded and in stunning condition. It features a full medallion back with a molded rope frame, two upholstered demilune arms curving from the back into curled handrests. The arms rest over curved supports with wonderful acanthus leaves that flow along the entire support and into the square rosette medallions at each corner of the frame. The upholstered seat is deep and comfortable, stuffed over the rail and framed in an exposed apron with figure-eight infinite molding over repeating beads. The chair rests over turned and tapered legs, each brilliantly formed with a near-trumpet form and highlighted with deep stop fluting, resting over spherical turned ball feet. The back feet have a wonderful splay to them. Each joint of this chair is completed with pinned tenon-mortise construction, these visible beneath the gilding either by outline or visible through the chipping of gilt.
In stunning condition, flawlessly formed and with an outstanding upholstery, this is a very fine chair for any formal setting. Whether it is used as a chair in front of your desk, in the bedroom before the dressing table, in the library beside a wall of books or in the living room with an eclectic collection of mixed styles, this is a chair that you will treasure and enjoy for a lifetime.

Georgian Revival Upholstered Antique Arm Chair
England, c. Late 19th Century, Tapestry Upholstered
Visit us at www.sillafineantiques.com for a full slideshow of pictures as well as a large selection of other fine furniture!
This listing is for a Late 19th Century Georgian Revival Tapestry Upholstered Arm Chair. It is a gorgeous example of an earlier time, with a wonderful hand embroidered original tapestry upholstery of an 18th Century scene of Royalty. It is quite unusual to find embroidered upholstery that has been as well preserved as this in revived examples, and it brings an incredible amount of life to the chair. The arms are long and molded, with a soft cabriole form curving into intensely carved hand rests. Similarly molded arm supports rise to lock the arms in place, each arm flanking a broad tapestry upholstered seat of animal life amongst foliate designs. The chair rests over cabriole legs, carved at the knees and terminating in curled Georgian toes.
This is a wonderful decorator find, not a collector example, but nonetheless a beautiful addition to any formal room. With stunning hand embroidery and fine carvings, this chair is a conversation piece and a highlighting strikepoint.
