Heres a rare opportunity to buy an original Bob Byerly oil painting for under $1,000 ! Most of Bob's Art Prints sell for $1,300 or more. That is for a PRINT!!! This is an original one of a kind oil painting guaranteed from the hand of the master painter Bob Byerley. While not yet on a par with Kansas Citys other great artist Thomas Hart Benton I assure you he is headed there. This is a great chance to own a original piece of art by an American master for an unheard of price. Bob Byerley is a master of Trompe l'oeil. Trompe l'oeil, means simply ''to deceive the eye''. Bob has been a master of this for years and most of his paintings have parts you swear are real or just about to move. They are so realistic they deceive the eye. This piece is titled ''F. H. with Grapes'' not sure who F H was but it was not his first wife who I met many times. I'm sure there is a bit more to the two grapes hanging tantalizingly down and the buxom woman's cleavage. Maybe more there than we will ever know. At any rate this is a very early painting by Bob and the grapes seem to pop off the canvas at you. I don't think he varnished this piece and a nice varnish job would make them pop out even more. I would guess this painting is from the middle 1970's maybe even early 70s. Certainly a great investment to be had here with tremendous upward potential in value. This piece was previously owned by Helen Nelson who's family founded ''The Kansas City Star'' and the Nelson - Atkins museum of art in Kansas City. Great bit of added provenance for this fine painting. Great condition no visible flaws frame is a tad outdated and I'm sure the new owner would be proud to choose a fine one for this great prize. Measures a nice 8'' by 9'' in its frame which could use updating or 4 x 5 normally. Absolutely guaranteed a true oil painting by Bob Byerley. An outstanding Pen and ink or gouache by well listed American artist Harry list 3 images and 4 auction results up to $3500. A tremendous example that I mistook for a photograph when I first viewed it. Incredible detail and lifelike look. Done in 1965 and looks alot like Mary Tyler Moore. I thought it was her photograph when I first saw it. One of the most detailed original drawing I have ever seen. Was an istuctor and had his own art studio for years. Very overlooked artist. Super watercolor by Peter Hurd. Well done and a inspiring barn dance that is personalized to Pat McNally ''my good friend PH''. 17'' by 14'' in frame and image is 14'' x 11''. Great look and a nice watercolor by a famous listed artist. Extremmely well listed. Very minor toning and easily could be a $5,000 auction item at Sothebys. HURD, PETER (1904-1984). Peter Hurd, painter, son of Harold and Lucy Chew (Knight) Hurd, was born in Roswell, New Mexico, on February 22, 1904. His parents named him Harold Hurd, Jr., but called him Pete, and in his early twenties he legally changed his name to Peter. The elder Hurd came from a prominent Boston family, graduated from Columbia University Law School, and established his legal practice in New York City, but abandoned it to serve in the Spanish-American War as a naval volunteer aboard the armed transport Yankee. A Hurd had fought in every American war, beginning with the French and Indian War. Peter Hurd grew up in Roswell, where his parents settled for health reasons. He studied the United States Cavalry Drill Manual at eleven and learned from his father, a first lieutenant in Battery A of the New Mexico National Guard, how to shoot. Following three years of high school at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, Hurd was accepted as a cadet by the United States Military Academy at West Point. He entered as a plebe in July 1921, at the age of seventeen. Within two years, however, he was disillusioned by the rigors and values of military life and was drawn increasingly to art. In 1923 he resigned from West Point in good standing, with his father's reluctant consent. He transferred to Haverford College, where he studied the liberal arts and devoted himself to painting. In December 1923, in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, Hurd became acquainted with N. C. Wyeth, an illustrator of children's classics. He persuaded Wyeth to accept him as a pupil in the spring of 1924. Hurd soon fell in love with Wyeth's eldest daughter, Henriette, herself an excellent painter. In June 1929 they married. Hurd first attained national fame in the late 1930s, and over the next four decades he earned many awards and distinctions. He served as a war-correspondent artist of Life magazine during World War IIqv and received the European Theater Medal for Service Overseas in 1947. In 1959 he was appointed to the Commission on Fine Arts by President Dwight D. Eisenhower,qv and in 1966 he painted the official portrait of President Lyndon B. Johnson;qv it now hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington. Hurd's art has been exhibited in museums throughout the country and is part of many permanent collections. He worked in a variety of media, including oil, lithography, watercolor, egg tempera, charcoal, and fresco. The most notable of his mural paintings depicting the history of southwestern life can be seen in Lubbock, Dallas, and Big Spring, Texas. Hurd achieved the best expression of his personal vision in the tempera paintings of the place he loved best-the small village of San Patricio, New Mexico, fifty miles west of Roswell, where he built Sentinel Ranch in the 1930s. A tremendous and large 18th century oil of a Gentleman with a snuff box in his hand. Great gold snuff box plus the quite fancy diamond ring on his hand seems to lead one to believe he was a man of means if not nobility. I'd guess this is American or English in origin and is unsigned.
