Oil panting by Claude Venard , French ( 1913-1999 ) depicting Still life, abstract, on canvas. Signature lower left. Size 23.3/4 " x 27.3/4" . Born in 1913 into a business family from Burgogne. At the age of 17 he began to take evening classes in painting at the Ecole de Arts Appliques. However, after six years of conscientious study he was forced in order to support himself, to spend most of 1936 working as a restorer at the Louvre Museum. This experience, however turned out to be beneficial in as much as it enabled the young artist to fill the gaps still existing in his artistic education. in 1936 abstract business was the dominant trend. That same year, a group show of young painters was organized by the Galerie Billet-Worms. This show led the critic Waldemar George to write: "Let's be young against Painting is not dead. Its course has not stopped. Forces Nouvelles is born. Within this new movement " Forces Nouvelles", the leading painters of the day, including Claude Venard were assembled, which gave impetus to their cause. Upon Venard's release from the army, at the end of World War II , his wife was transformed. With recognition came the chance to put painting before all else. In 1945, through his continued friendship with Gruber & Merchand, Venard shared mutual success. He remained faithful to a post-Cubist Compositional style, and progressively, accentuated the chromatism of his pallet up to reaching the crudest of colors, which he used in very thick forms and sometimes applied with a pallet knife. Venard's career was a happy one, punctuated by one man show in Paris, London, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Dusseldorf , Munich , Buenos Aires , Tokyo, Canada, Belgium and Holland. The Artist loved life in all its aspects, and one is inclined to feel that he may have been in search of a genre of painting that would respond to even the most earthy appetites. As He himself, phrased it " We Must be wary of works that seduce at first glance. By this i don't mean to say that ugliness is the greatest of virtues only tat a work must inspire because of it's own worth, without the intermediary of gracious artifices".
Museums: Modern Art Museum- Paris, Rouen Museum- Niece Museum - Munich Museum-Tokyo Museum- Metropolitan Museum, New York, Dallas Museum, Sao Paulo Museum , Montreal Museum , Tate Gallery London.

BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
Andriienko-Nechytailo, Mykhailo [Andrijenko-NeÄytajlo, Myxajlo] (known in France as Michel Andreenko), b 29 December 1894 in Odesa, d 12 November 1982 in Paris. Modernist painter and stage designer. In 1912–17 Andriienko-Nechytailo studied with N. Rerikh, A. Rylov, and I. Bilibin at the art school of the Society for the Promotion of the Arts in Saint Petersburg. In 1914–16 he exhibited the composition Black Dome and his first cubist works in Saint Petersburg. In 1914 he participated in an international graphics exhibition in Leipzig. In 1917–24 he devoted most of his time to designing stage sets for various theaters—in Saint Petersburg, Odesa, Prague, Paris, and for the Royal Opera in Bucharest. In Paris, where he lived from 1923, he also worked on sets for the films Casanova and Sheherazade and continued to paint in the cubist-constructivist style (eg, Composition [1924], Construction [1924], or A Person [1926]). In the 1930s Andriienko-Nechytailo produced a series of surrealist paintings (eg, A Fair Stall [1933]). He switched to neorealism in the 1940s and painted a number of portraits as well as a series the cityscapes Disappearing Paris (such as Rue Carpeaux [1946], Rue Paul Barruel [1954], Rue Cambronne [1954], and Paysage du Cycle [1956]). From 1958 he returned to constructivism and abstraction. Andriienko-Nechytailo's work is characterized by a precision of composition that harmonizes subtly with color. His stage sets are remarkable for their laconic quality and architectural schematism, and his costume designs, for their richness. His paintings can be found in the City Museum of Modern Art and the Arsenal Library in Paris, the National Library in Vienna, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the National Museum in Lviv, and Ukrainian émigré museums and private art collections. Andriienko-Nechytailo is also the author of several short stories and articles on art.

Hilton Leech abstract modern art expressionist movement landscape oil painting on artist board. The contrast between the murky greens and the brilliant orange red creates a subtle tension and moodiness. Measures 16.5 inches high x 12.5 inches wide framed, unframed 14 inches high by 10 inches wide. C1950 to 1960. Hilton Leech was a master watercolorist and painter. He was inventive and experimented with a variety of mediums and combined them with watercolor to advance the medium of watercolor beyond the purist aesthetic, mixing the rich quality of casein glazed with colored inks thus creating a range of textures and redefining opaqueness and transparency with a combination of stencils, watercolor and liquid plastics. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1906 and died in 1969. Hilton Leech was 20 before he made up his mind to become an artist. He knew he liked to draw and paint and had won a few local contests. His first love was nature and combined with his artistic aptitudes he decided to enroll in the Grand Central Art School and later studied lithography at the Art Students League. His association with his instructors Arshile Gorky and George Pearce Ennis at the Grand Central Art School moved his career forward as Mr. Ennis hired him as his assistant. In 1931, they came to Sarasota to teach at the new Ringling Art School. Later, Ennis returned to New York and while Leech continued to teach during the winter season for ten years at the Ringling and in the summer had his own school at Amagansett, Long Island.
