George III, dated 1810 1810 Silkwork Sampler by Jane Rossiter. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering grape vine border. Colours green, cream, red, yellow, dark brown, pink, purple, light green. Verse reads ''Trust God distrust yourself and see> your proper business done> O? v????? Pray contented be> And all Ambition shun> Be swift to hear and slow to speak> Your secrets keep with care> To inferiors kind superiors meek> And with your equals Dear''. Signed and dates ''Jane Rossiters work in her 11th year 1810''. A few motifs, including potted flowering plants, flowers, birds and butterflies. Generally Good. A number of holes. Thinning of the ground along the top edge. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground. Stitch losses to the border, signature, motifs and verse. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 16ins by 13ins wide « Less

George III, dated 1796 1796 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Jackson. Framed in a old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Floral border with divider lines in various patterns. Colours gold, copper, light green, cream and purple. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-8. Verse reads ''Sing Ye With Praise Unto The Lord> New Songs With Joy And Mirth> Sing Unto The With One Accord> All People On The Earth''. Signed and dated ''Ann Jackson Rufforth 1796''. Rufforth is a town in North Yorkshire, England. A scattering of motifs, including gentlemen figures, birds, potted flowering plants, fir trees, crosses, hearts, diamonds, beehive, crowns and a lion. Good. A couple of holes. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground. Minor stitch losses to the border, divider lines, the date, place name, motifs, letters/numbers and the verse. Colours are slightly faded, but the silks remain bright and glossy. No colour run. Victorian, dated August 2 1844 1844 Sampler by Catherine McCarv?. Framed in an old, possibly original, wood frame with rippled, old glass and hanging hook to the top. Stitched to a wood stretcher frame with linen dust cover tacked to the back. The sampler is worked in silk and cotton on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours navy blue, cream, light blue, green, pink and gold. Alphabet A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-14. Verse reads ''one hundred years who then shall tell> of those whom now I love so well .> one hundred years and we shall be .> In endless bless or misery .''. Signed and dated ''Catherine Mc Carva . August 2 1844 . Aged 10.''. Unusual motif of a house set into a hill, with a pond to one side and surrounded by birds, trees, flowers, a rabbit and swan. Generally Good. Several holes. A few patchy stains. Some stitch losses to the border, divider line, alphabet, numbers and verse. Last letter of the surname has been re-stitched and is hard to decipher. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. Slight colour run around the navy blue threads. Stretching is slightly uneven. Verse reads ''JESUS permit thy gracious name to stand> As the first effort of my infant hand> And whilst my fingers on the canvas move> Engage my tender thoughts to seek thy love> With thy dear children let me have a part> And write thy name thyself upon my heart''. Signed and dated ''Mary Anger Aged 10 Years 1829''. A good set of motifs, including a castle, birds, dogs, flowers, fir trees, diamonds, stars and potted flowering plants. Good. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye. Meandering strawberry border, partly visible along top edge. (The rest of the border was missing from previous mounting). Colours green, cream, light brown, white, black, pink, light blue, navy blue and gold. Verse reads ''Though waves and storms go oer my head> Though strength and health and ftends be gone> Though joys be witherb all and dead> Though every comfort be withdrawn> On this my steadfest soul relies> Father thy merces never dies> But if thy wisdom should decree> That I this year shall die> May I in heaven thy grace receve''. Signed and dated ''1849 Ann Hirst aged 19 yers''. A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a garden, dogs, flowers, potted flowering plants, fruit trees, a rabbit, fruit baskets, fir trees, a female figure, sheep with lambs, birds and a peacock.
