circa: 2000 width: 60 height: 31 length: 36 This antique style satinwood gillows desk is bench-made in England as a reproduction of a Georgian period antique. Every aspect of this writing desk is of the absolute highest quality. For instance, the satinwood looks great, with a nice color and very pronounced grain. Fine rosewood inlays along the drawer fronts and skirt complement the satinwood beautifully. The two locking drawers come equipped with solid brass hardware, which contrasts with the wood very nicely, and they also feature hand-cut dovetailed joints, which are a sign of fine craftsmanship. The top of this desk is a writing surface of antique style green leather bordered with embossing and hand-worked gold tooling. This desk sits on turned, fluted legs that complement the rounded corners and are also quite sturdy so there should be no concern about stability.   « Less

circa: 1890 width: 37 height: 41 length: 24 This beautiful solid-pine clerks desk was hand-crafted in Victorian England around 1890 and recently imported to our antique furniture store here in Atlanta, GA, USA. The pine displays a wonderful grain and rich complexion, both complemented by a lovely patina that will continue to grow more beautiful with each successive generation. This clerks desk provides a generous amount of storage space for its size, with two external drawers and a top that opens to reveal an interior desk space with tongue-in-groove paneling. The dark green leather, although not in the prime condition it once enjoyed over a century ago, provides a smooth, elegant writing surface that is far superior to wood, glass or metal. Each drawer features solid-brass pulls and hand-cut dovetails. They also retain brass escutcheons but these do not, unfortunately, house functioning locks and the piece does not retain the original key. Some time ago the legs were damaged and the feet were sawed off, and each leg now shows signs of that damage in the form of significant cracks and chips; nevertheless the piece remains sturdy. This elegant Victorian pine clerks desk would certainly make a fantastic addition to any home furniture collection!   « Less

Davenport Desk. Original dark finish; black and brass. Wood ;brass and leather. The desk has a slanted front, with a black leather writing surface, that lifts up to open a large storage compartment. It has a lock and an exterior brass keyhole escutcheon. Above is a long drawer, with lock and two triangular brass pulls, and two side compartments, with triangular brass pulls. Above this is a roll-top compartment containing double grooved pen slots and two compartments for inkwells. The lower front of the desk is outlined with molding and the upper desk is support on each side by scrolled brackets that extend forward under the writing surface and compartment. The desk rests on four bun feet on wooden rollers. The left side of the desk has graduated false drawers with brass pulls in a Chinese cut out design. The right side has four graduated drawers with matching brass pulls, brass keyholes and locks.   « Less
