This is a beautiful item and complete and original.Most one sees are bits and pieces or marriages in fact I have not seen another complete one for sale on the internet or anywhere else for that matter.The chain weighs 410gm and is of high silver content. It has a matching Tughra (the Ottoman mark of the current sultan of the period)on every part including the chain. Ottoman silver with Tughra is very rare as most was melted down for coinage so only ecclesiastical pieces and pieces owned by the very wealthy and well to do have survived.Of all the antiques it has been suggested one should collect are Middle Eastern and Asian antiques also Mughal pieces all of which of quality are becoming rare and prices rising rapidly.I will be listing two other tughra marked pieces and a superb 18thc clerics three sided seal,no Tughra but high quality silver.   « Less

This is a superb example of its type with two sides where the character is bordered by floral sprays,engraving of mind boggling complexity and quality.The third side has an abstract border.This piece came from a major collection in Turkey and I had to pay very good money for it but do not regret this as it is far and above the best I have seen. There are many fakes on eBay. The silver content is very high and if my dating is correct changing from the Hijra to the Gregorian calender it dates to 1750 and the border decoration supports this. It measures 1.5in or 4cm. long and the seal is supported by a Tughri the totem of the Oghuz tribe from whom the Ottomans were descended.   « Less

This is a very large plate covered in a white slip on a reddish body both inside and out to the flat footrim and would date to the 19thc probably early. The decoration in turquoise and black is that of a ewer surrounded by leafy branches.There are two borders the outer being the slip surrounded by a black border resembling a Chinese ruyi. The plate is in excellent order,shows the three spur marks typical of this ware and has a diameter of 16.5in. or 41.5cm.This is from the same collection as the others and is quite different to the better known Canakkale ceramics but is absolutely correct.   « Less

This is a fine embossed zarf which is quite unusual as most are cast.The decoration is a fine grape and leaf pattern with a nicely balanced raised lower edge.The base is engraved with a cutout pattern at the edge.The pieces both have matching Tughras of one of the late 19thc Ottoman Sultans and the zarf was once gilded the remains of which can be seen on the inside and base. This is probably the best zarf I have seen and it has a blank shield for inscription of the owner which has however not been used. The zarf on base stands 2.5in. or 6cm. high and is in excellent condition.   « Less

This is a very nice embossed box.possibly for tea,the inside lined with tin or lead to stop damage.The box is of good dimensions and bears the Tughra on both top and bottom,the bottom one with makers mark and the zig zag pattern not uncommon on Ottoman silver. The box is in excellent condition bar the loss of a handle at the front an easy exercise to fix. The round box stands 3in or 7.5 cm. high and has a diameter of 3.5in or 8.5cm. The tuhgra is that of one of the latte 19thc Sultans. Tughra marked silver which is genuine is becoming very rare.   « Less

Antique 16th century Turkish Ottoman leather water flask (Matara) formed from the hind-quarters of an animal with stitching down the middle of the flask, one leg acting as the spout, the other shortened and stitched, acting as a small handle, retained its original wooden stopper. The Matara leather water flasks were very popular in Turkish Ottoman Army. MEASUREMENTS: Height: from the top of the stopper to the bottom of the base: 34.8 cm (13 3/4 in). CONDITION: In its original condition, showing the age and usage, with a dark brown patina. REFERENCES: Identical Flask is published in the Bonhams catalogue: Islamic & Indian Art London 19 April 2007 lot 181. Title: An Ottoman leather Water Flask (matara) Turkey, 16th Century, at a Estimate Price: £2,000 - 3,000 US$ 3,200 - 4,700 €2,300 - 3,500. This water flask is the prototype for a shape which was copied in far more lavish and durable materials from the sixteenth century.
