This item has been SOLD. This painted leather Tigre mask has been associated with various boys coming of age rituals. At one time boys would, as a part of that ceremony don these masks and battle with wood staffs. Today the festival is more celebratory. Our mask is painted in the traditional yellow and black of a tiger. The boar bristle whiskers and brows along with the mirror eyes give the mask a real presence. The leather is stiff with age and a bit gritty. The left eye surround has noticeable wear. In all other respects it is a good example of this style Tigre mask. A colorful addition to any Mexican Folk Art Collection. Size 10" in height and 7.5" in diameter. 1960-70"s « Less

This item has been SOLD,
It is rare to find a complete Kamr, the belt worn by warriors of Indias Hill Tribes who carried a musket. These belts, according to George Cameron Stone, carried flasks, bullet pouches and other loading implements with the combination of articles varying greatly. Our example has its original leather belt, with metal belt hook and two large pouches which were obviously crafted by the same hand. The metal pieces are comprised of a large powder flask and several finely crafted and engraved hooks which may have been for a sword as well as other necessary accoutrements. The leather has seen years of use and is very dry yet in good antique condition. Mid 19th Century. « Less
