George Arthur Hays landscape sheep painting on canvas c1900. The frame measures 42 inches by 29 inches, the painting measures 24 x 36 inches. Very good condition. George Arthur Hays (1854-1945) sheep landscape oil painting. Bio from RogerKingFineArts.com. George Arthur Hays (1854-1945) is one of Rhode Island's most popular 19th-century artists. He was born in Greenville, New Hampshire and spent his adult life in Providence, keeping a studio at the Woods Building on College Street. Hays was a member of the Providence Art Club, where he exhibited from 1888 to 1940, the Society for Independent Artists, the Copley Society, and the Providence Water Color Club. Self-taught, Hays painted in oils and watercolors and is best known for tranquil landscapes featuring cows and sheep. Records indicate that he painted scenery for "Keith's Circuit," and for Boston's Park Theatre in 1887. His works have an enduring charm that have endeared them to generations of collectors, and his penchant for depicting grazing livestock, whether singly or in flocks, in bucolic settings, seemingly never flagged. Stylistically, Hays' works seem to derive their inspiration from the Barbizon School and French animal portraiture, an offshoot of the Barbizon tradition that dignified work animals, imbuing them with a sense of patient endurance and uncomplaining service. Hays often created companion paintings, one of sheep and another of cows, but rarely combined the two animals within the same composition. Shipping extra. Helen Savier DuMond oil landscape of the Lyme hills. Estate stamped on back of canvas and on stretcher. Excellent condition, mounted in gold leafed wood frame. This is an original oil on board by Ben Benn. The board is 11-3/4" by 9", with frame 16-1/2 by 14". The scene depicts a large reddish bird in a tree, deep in a forest. It is signed and titled at the upper right on the back of the board, "Wood Interior/Ben Benn." I guarantee that the painting is by Benn, since the painting was acquired by a friend who bought it directly from Benn over 60 years ago. The condition is very good, no holes, although a light cleaning may be in order. There is a little of the canvas showing at the lower left of the painting, and it looks like the paint was never applied to the area. « Less

Here we offer oil of a sailing boat on river by leading British Naive school artist Fred Aris. Since his death in 2012 his oils watercolours and pen and inks have become well collected. The paintings date from the 1960's and measures approx 65 cm x 50 cm.
Fred Aris was born in London in 1932 and is regarded as one of the leading lights in the Naive Art Movement in the 20th century. Although best known for his cartoon style works which have been sold at Christies, Bonhams in both Europe and America the paintings we offer have also become very collectable since his death in 2012. Here is an opportunity to purchase some of his work which may well prove a good long term investment. « Less
