ANT-548 Lovely Pair of 1920 Edwardian Wall Sconces Lovely pair of Circa 1920 wall sconces. Original antique sconces, with original Art Glass antique shades. These sconces have a lovely Edwardian pewter look, and a great design that is so typical of the Edwardian style. The original antique shades are also so very nice. They are an ivory color, with clear applied art glass touches to each side. A nice combination indeed! The backplates are cast metal, with a lovely pewter finish. Ready to go...nothing needs to be done except add the light bulbs of your choice. We suggest a tubular S-10 bulb, which is the same kind of tubular bulb often used in desk lamps. It gives a balanced light for this longer shade. Measurements: * Height: 8 ¾" * Width: 4 ½" (shade) * Projection: 4 ¾" from the wall into the room. This light (circa 1935) was part of Markel's "8800" series. This chandelier was Model 8836, which was top of the line for this 8800 series. Their 1930s catalog says it has a spread of 20". Markel was one of the biggest companies working in the Great Depression, and had locations in America, Canada, and Australia. They made a lot of the slip shade fixtures found in antique shops today, and were a quality company. The frame has a Red Bronze finish. The finish...while being cleaned up a mite...is original, and simply beautiful to the max. You cannot find a much better antique red bronze finish slip shade chandelier than this one. Wonderful condition! The shades are simply a treat and in remarkable condition. Probably made by Consolidated Glass, or another quality glass house. A well known name in Art Deco Americana lighting is Moe Bridges. There are existing catalogs from the 1930s that show his lines, as well as a few reference books. This pendant comes from the series that Moe Bridges called the Etruscan Series. This three shade pendant was presented in their 1935 catalog. The frame is cast iron, and supplied in an original pewter finish. The shades are a deep amber color, and present a nicely carved detail design thereon. Art Deco Mid-West Streamline design six shade chandelier with great Clam Shell shades from the 1930s. Mid-West was an outstanding company that survived the Great Depression, which took many companies out of business. They had a standard that they never lowered, and the resulting work shows just that. They were clever too. They used this clam shell shade for two totally different lines. The first line, which catered to the Victorian tastes, had curvilinear lines and motifs. The second line embraced the new Art Deco Streamline movement, of which the chandelier is...and was...TOP-OF-THE-LINE, and their best offering for their Streamline series. (Information courtesy of the Kelly Art Deco Lighting Museum.) This fine light has two mixed metal finishes of polished metal contrasting with a rich old gold finish, and is, as the pictures tell, in outstanding condition for its age. The shades are simply fantastic. No damage at all, and they have extremely rich colors. Measurements: * Height: 24" tall, but can be lengthened by adding a little extra chain. Almost like these sconces had their detail outlined for impact. The metal of the frames is brass throughout. The shades are really nice. They have an embossed design done in the Consolidated Glass method, with crisp clarity and impact. Extremely high-end shades in really great condition. The colors are a buff with off-white highlights. Just great shades. Really a VERY striking chandelier. Most French chandeliers have elements of Victoriana Rococo style designing, while this example goes directly for a "WOW" Deco Streamline look. A nice 1930 - 1935 French Art Deco chandelier...nickel plated over brass...with the most outstanding ribbed Streamline shades we have seen. They are heavy, and near-mint. What an effect these shades have! Simply riveting! Measurements: * Diameter: 30 ½" * Height: 34" overall. The chandelier has been re-wired in our UL shop. French sockets were removed, and American normal medium base sockets were installed. The sockets take an everyday light bulb...but we went a step further since this chandelier intrigued us so much. We installed a removable adapter to change the thread to chandelier base so we could install a short mirror top 60 watt chandelier bulb by Satco (stock number S3246) called a Silver Crown Globe. Wonderful Pair of 1920s to 1930s Edwardian Style Sconces. The backplates of these sconces are cast metal with a lovely pewter patina. The shades are great, and made of embossed glass. They have a thick ruffled, beaded pattern at the top rim, and a trailing floral motif in the center. Amber color, with clear reveal. The shades are a bit taller than normal, making it nice for bulb selection. Measurements: * Height: 10 ½" * Width: 4 ¾" (at the backplate) * Projection: 6" from the wall into the room. Silverized Old Brass/Bronze LARGE Figural Peacock Sconce Sometimes, its just a bit difficult to describe a unique object to sufficient clarity. This item just might qualify. Made as a total "look-at-me" item, it is a wonderful French casting of a peacock with a remarkable cast tail. The tail has five light sockets for emphasis, and perhaps even could be used as an outstanding mood or night light for a large room. There is only one. When this item came to us, it had old fashioned English circa 1920s sockets in it for bayonet pin bulbs. This simply would not do. So...we gutted the electrical sockets, and installed American chandelier sockets inside the original mountings to take American candelabra bulbs. This was accomplished in our UL shop, so the utmost care is assured. However...normal light bulbs would put a point of light right into your face, and that wouldn't do either. So we installed mirror top bulbs, which direct light out to the sides at 180°, and projects none of the light into your face. These bulbs are called Silver Crown Globes, and are made by Satco (stock numbered S3246). We think this bulb gives an outstanding effect. We will supply these bulbs, as pictured, with the light. The castings are outstanding. As you can tell from the picture taken with Michael (of our UL shop), the sconce is quite large. The finish is the old fashioned silverizing, which was so popular with the British and Art Nouveau markets. Measurements: * Height: 22" * Width: 18 ½" French and British lighting did not use American electrical boxes, so this sconce was never designed for it. To make it screw into an American electrical box, we would have to drill a mounting hole through the tail-fan, and we simply could not bring ourselves to this. So...we left the French mounting loop on the back. The mounting will be by this loop from a substantial hooking device you install. It is a heavy sconce, so the hanging device should be mounted into a strut or beam behind your drywall. Our idea would be to place the center of the figure over an electrical box for the electrical connections, and then calculate the best place to put the loop. But...a second option does exist. This could also be created as a table display with the addition of a backing stand of some reliable type.
