Nils joined Royal Copenhagen as an apprentice in 1912, and graduated from the royal Danish Academy in 1917. He went on to become Royal Copenhagen’s most prolific designer. He was Artistic director at Royal Copenhagen from 1949 while also artistic director of Alumina also from 1928-1969 He designed at least 4 of their best known production ranges – Solberg (1930’s), Marselis (Alumina 1950’s) Tenera(1960’s) and Baca (1964 -) He also produced many exquisite art pieces in high fired glazes that are lesser known and hard to find. Nils also designed the Morgenfue dinner ware range (1934-1967) which I have written about previously HERE. Nils body of work is so large that it is hard to capture a picture of it as a whole, as of course it changed during his lifetime spent at Royal Copenhagen, but his pieces from the 1950s - 1970’s, especially from the BACA and TENERA ranges,were and remain some of Royal Copenhagen’s most popular works coveted as being prime examples of mid-century modernism. Nils motifs and designs ranged from the naturalistic to abstract to geometric designs – and I think the best of these are those with the beautiful highly detailed and complex relief patterns from the BACA range. Pair of gorgeous 1930s-Mid Century Chinese porcelain table lamps. Both lamps are marked with a foil sticker Warren Kessler New York The base looks like rosewood and the shades look like silk; however I am not sure I am right on either account. The porcelain part of the lamps measure approximately 20" tall' with the shades a substantial 38" tall. All the metal is brass. The colors are beautifully matched hues of green, blue, pink and yellow. Each lamp has a double light with pull chains for each. The lamps are in excellent cosmetic and working condition. Two European Cut Cameo Hanging Bowl Lights Lovely pair of fine cut cameo ceiling bowls from the last 20 or 30 years. We received three cameo bowls from the same home. The home owners had bought them from a European source, and we are guessing Bohemia. However...they were wired badly...against UL guidelines...and needed to be completely re-wired, and brought up to UL code standards, which they are now. Previously...they had under-sized wiring with European sockets that were non-UL approved. Now, after re-wiring in our UL shop...we have a cluster of three medium base sockets, which means you can easily install normal medium base bulbs and have up to 300 watts of lighting power. And wow...does this great quantity of light make those chiseled and finely cut designs come alive! There are two bowls with the country scenes. These are hand-ground cameo designs, so they differ slightly. The glass is applied by a craft person choosing each color...so the colors also differ slightly. One bowl has a more BROWN coloration to the raised designs, while the other bowl has a more RED coloration to the design. Both, however, are simply outstanding. So choose either more red, or more brown when ordering. **PLEASE NOTE: Both Red Coloration & Brown Coloration Options have sold.
