For Sale is a very unusual piece of pottery made by a factory in Japan to compete with Weller's well known and desirable pattern, Coppertone. The shape is a vase or figural vessel and measures approximately 4" tall, 4 3/4" in overall length and 3 3/4" deep. The Vase depicts a frog clinging to a Water Lily in full bloom perched upon a lily pad. The frog and lotus blossom have crisp details and is molded from an original Weller Coppertone frog as it is the same exact size and form everyone is familiar with. The difference is all in the high gloss Jade Green glaze accented with pink highlights for the details. There is also a slight frothy white glaze around the edge of the lily pad and tips of the flower petals. The piece is signed on the bottom with an impressed "MADE IN JAPAN" in block letters. It is somewhat difficult to see and when I first picked up this little piece I was baffled that I had never come across a Coppertone piece in a high gloss glaze before. Imagine my surprise after closer examination to find out it is a vintage import. The clay on the bottom is even close to the color of Ohio Valley Clay. The Vase is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. There is a firing line or separation of the clay by the center hole on the bottom that happened during manufacturing and does not show or hurt the value. This is rather a rare find. You can search the Internet and Ebay and you will have a problem in finding a similar one. I have never seen one before this one and I have collected and sold Weller Coppertone for some 38 Years. The Vase was more than likely made sometime during the 1930's.   « Less

For sale is a beautiful Amphora art pottery vase made by Reissner, Stellmacher and Kessel who was considered the best manufacturer of this type of pottery. The Vase is rather large as it measures 7 3/8" tall and is approximately 7 3/4" in diameter. The outside rim measures approximately 4 1/4" and the mouth measures 2 3/4" wide. The Vase depicts a wonderfully detailed Rooster in a barnyard scene with what appears to be Birch trees in the foreground and nice fields with trees in the background. This painting is done in various shades of Blue and White with nice outline details of both the rooster and the trees. This is all on the belly or the bulge of the vessel. The bottom third of the vase is done in a classic amphora iridescent cobalt blue background glaze with mauve mottling. There is a nice raised gilded decorative pattern over the blue glaze with circles and scallops that is quite pleasing. There is also a raised gilded dot to accent each scallop in the pattern The top rim of the Vase is also gilded in gold. The Vase is considered to be in Very Good to Excellent condition as there are no cracks in this lovely piece. There is some minor flaking to the gilding at the base of the vessel where it has been set down too hard or from spinning the vase on the surface instead of picking it up and turning it to view the scene. It does not detract from the piece however as the main subject matter is the proud rooster strutting his stuff for the ladies! There is also a few of the raised dots with small surface glaze chips that do not detract from its beauty and finally some wear to the gilding on the top rim. The Vase is marked with a Red ink stamp that reads "R St. K TURN TEPLITZ BOHEMIA" surrounding a kiln in a circular manner as well as the words "MADE IN AUSTRIA". There is also an incised mark in an oval that reads "AMPHORA AUSTRIA". Finally there are impressed block numbers that read "3264" with the number "26" impressed underneath that. The first Amphora manufacturer was Reissner, Stellmacher and Kessel beginning in 1892 and they were recognized for their superior quality. They had many unusual forms with spectacular glazes. There were many other potters in the Turn-Teplitz region as well however. R St. & K's was introduced to the United States in 1893 at the Chicago World Fair and they were awarded "Best in Show". In 1905 Stellmacher left the company to start his own business and R St. & K's name was changed to Amphora Werke Reissner. There is the possibility that this Vase was decorated by Paul Dachsel. This Vase was made Circa 1892-1905.   « Less

For Sale is a beautiful piece of carnival glass made by the Millersburg Glass Company of Holmes County, Ohio. The shape is a Creamer and the pattern is "Hanging Cherries". The Creamer measures 4 1/4" tall and is 5 5/8" in diameter from outside spout to the outside handle measurement. The Creamer depicts very detailed clusters of hanging cherries from branches and stippled leaves that are realistic with attention to the veining and serrated edges. The piece has one molded handle and is finished with a soft scalloped edge to the top rim along with a spout to pour the cream. It has a collar base and smooth interior. The iridescence on this Creamer is excellent and stunning. You can see vivid colors of Gold, Blue, Purple, and Teal on the exterior and interior. This iridescence is considered to be a Radium finish. This Creamer is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. All the teeth on the top border are damage free, not even a flea nick. The mold is crisp and the detail in the leaves is outstanding. The piece is not signed but the pattern is a well documented Millersburg pattern. Millersburg Glass Company began constuction in 1908 by John W. Fenton after breaking away from the Fenton Art Glass Company where he and his brothers, Frank and Charles, were partners. He began glass production in May of 1909 however the company filed for bankruptcy in 1911 most likely due to his lack of business experience and remote location. John was noted for his extravagance and attention to detail in his workmanship making Millersburg some of the most desirable carnival glass available. I have also read that Black Cherries were John's favorite fruit and several of the trees planted on the property surrounding the factory. He would sometimes have his workers climb the trees and break off a branch for him to study and work on his patterns. This Creamer was made Circa 1909-1911.   « Less

For Sale is a beautiful piece of Carnival Glass made by The Northwood Glass Company of Wheeling, West Virginia. The pattern is known as "Strawberry" and the shape is a Ruffled Bowl. The Bowl measures 2 1/2" tall at the tips of the ruffles and is 9 1/4" in diameter. It has a base diameter of 3 3/8". The Bowl displays a sprig of strawberries and leaves that circle the entire interior area of the bowl. The leaves have Stippling and the Detail in the Strawberries is outstanding. The Iridescence is almost as good as the day it was made. It is quite brilliant as you can see beautiful hues of Golds, Fuchsia, and Blue/Purple Iridescence. The backside of the bowl has the Collar foot with the ever popular Basket Weave back. The piece is in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. I can only see 1 tiny scratch in the iridescence on the interior bottom. This was too small to photograph. This piece must have sat in a cabinet most of its life. The piece is not signed on the bottom but there is no mistake that this is Northwood's "Strawberry" pattern. Here is your chance to own a wonderful piece of Carnival Glass that has outstanding Iridescence as well as a Crisp Mold Strike. This bowl is not that commonly found. According to the reference books this pattern was found 80% of the time with the Pie Crust edge and only 20% with the Ruffled Edge. Since this one has the Ruffled Edge makes this all the more Rare and Desired! The Bowl was made Circa 1910-1915.   « Less

For sale is a wonderful piece of Art Pottery made by The Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The item is an Arts & Crafts Three Handled "Bullet" Vase. The vase is a nice size as it measures 6 3/4" tall and is approximately 5" in diameter. The Vase is done in one of Fulper Pottery's most beautiful and sought after glazes. The Vase depicts a Rich Caramel Glaze that is accented with Deep Brown Flambé Glaze Runs spilling over the top edge and down it side. The Vase look almost good enough to eat. The Vase is a classic ovoid shape with three evenly spaced handles at the top. The Glaze runs on this vase are absolutely beautiful. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are a few minor scratches in the glaze but nothing too obtrusive. The Vase is marked on the underside bottom with Fulper's Racetrack Ink Stamp Signature mark. This would date this Vase to be made Circa 1922-1928. This Vase is known as shape number 530 in the Fulper Catalog Pages and was simply called a "Vase" according to the book on Fulper by Hibel-Defalco-Rago. For Sale is a wonderful Art and Crafts Styled Vase made by The Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The Vase is done in what I call a "Squat Raised Buttressed Handled" planter. The Vase is done in one of Fulper Pottery's most beautiful glaze combinations known as "Leopard Skin". The Vase has a nice size to it as it stands 3 1/4" tall and is 6 3/4" in diameter at the outside top handle measurement. This Planter displays an outstanding green-brown mottled Leopard Skin Crystalline Glaze. The two tone Pea Green Glaze seems to be the main color of the Vase with the Leopard Skin Crystals covering throughout. These spots are plentiful on both sides of the vase and the pictures speak for themselves. The Glaze displays a two tone green at the neck with wonderful crystals throughout the lower half. The handles on both sides even have the Leopard Skin spots. The inside of the bowl has a Cats Eye Flambe' Glaze with copper dust crystals in the bottom. The Planter is further accented with 2 raised buttressed style handles that rise up from the waist and goes above the top lip. Then it reaches over and back down and attached to the top round lip perfectly. These appear to be two ear shaped buttress style handles. This Gives this piece that added Arts & Crafts, Mission shape. The Planter is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are a Glaze pops but they are circular in shape and resemble the Leopard Skin spots and fit right in. These are pictured. The inside shows minor scratches in the bottom from use and is typical of a piece with this amount of age. The Vase is marked on the underside bottom with Fulper's incised "Fulper" vertical inside an oval Racetrack signature mark. This was Fulper's middle period mark and was made circa 1916-1922. This form is one of the most desirable to own in Fulper Pottery. This is known as shape number 73 in the Fulper Pottery Catalog and is simply described as a "Shouldered Jardinière" This form used to be fairly common to see but I have seen very few examples in the past few years. It appears that the collectors are hanging on to these beauties. This is an excellent example of this form and glaze from Fulper. I'm quite sure the Buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. For Sale is a very nice Vase made by The Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The shape is known as a "Double Handled Swollen Form" and it is done in one of Fulper Pottery's most beautiful glaze combinations. The Vase is a nice size as it stands 7 1/2" tall and is 6 1/4" in diameter outside handles measurement. The Vase depicts a Mirrored Dark Blue with a hint of Flambe' at the top lip. The Glaze is so reflective it you can almost see yourself in it. The Swollen Form is accented with 2 Handles that Rises out of the shoulder and attaches to the Cylindrical Raised Lip flush or even with the top opening. The top of the vase reminds me of a Volcano with handles. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is a scuff mark on the upper front just above the waist . The Glaze is very evenly Colored and there are very, very few pin pops. Truly an excellent example of this glaze. The Vase is signed on the underside bottom with "Fulper" Incised inside a Racetrack or Oval mark. This would date this Vase to have been made, Circa 1916-1922. This form is very popular with the Fulper Pottery collectors. It is known as shape number 643 in the Fulper Catalog Pages and was called a "Shoulder and Handled Vase" according to the book on Fulper by Hibel-Defalco-Rago. This is a wonderful example of this Form and Glaze from Fulper. I'm sure the Lucky Buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. For Sale is a wonderful Art Pottery Bowl made by The Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The Bowl is done in what I call a "Paneled" form. The Bowl is done in one of Fulper Pottery's most beautiful glaze combinations known as "Cats Eyes Flambé with Copper Dust Crystals. The Bowl is large as it stands 2 3/8" tall and is 13" in diameter at it widest point. The Bowl has a wonderful Scallop Modeled form. It displays a beautiful Deep Brown Flambé Glaze that spills over the top edge and down it side to the underside. The glaze is so thick that it forms glaze bumps on the underside. You can see the beautiful under glaze which is a caramel brown. When looking into the center of the bowl you can clearly see the Cats' Eye looking glaze. It is further Accented with Copper Dust Crystals. The Glaze Swirls on the interior of the Bowl is just outstanding!The pictures tell the whole story. The Bowl is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The bowls shows minor signs of use. There are very few Glaze pops and a few minor scratches as is very common for Fulper glazes. The bowl is quite heavy and stable. The Bowl is marked on the underside bottom with Fulper's Vertical Race Track Ink Stamp Signature mark with stylized oriental letters. This would date this piece to have been made circa 1922-1928. This is an Outstanding Example of this Form and Glaze from Fulper. This is know as shape number 472 in the Fulper Catalog pages and was called a "Flat Modeled Bowl". There were 2 sizes to this bowl a 15" and a smaller 13". This would be the smaller bowl I'm selling. I'm quite sure the Buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. For Sale is a wonderful Arts and Crafts Shaped Vessel made by Hampshire Pottery of Keene, NH. The shape is known as a "Shoulder" Vase. The Vase has some size to it as it stands 7" tall and is 5" in diameter at the shoulder. The mouth or opening of the Vase is 2 7/8" in diameter. The Vase has a wonderful matte Sage Green Glaze that is pretty uniform throughout. The Texture of the Glaze is rather unique as it strongly resembles that of an Alligator's Skin. One half of the Vase has this heavy texture with the other side being smooth like the underside of an Alligator. You can see undertones of a deep mauve on the smooth side. The Bottom edge displays that beautiful ground down, smooth round bottom edge. Hampshire Pottery made 4 versions of this very popular form. This form was the 2nd largest of this form. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is a dimple on the smooth side along the Shoulder. I believe this was purposely made this way. It also has crazing on the heavy texture side. I also believe this was done on purpose as well. There is a an area on the Textured shoulder side that has a Semi-Gloss finish. This is also factory. I have pictured all of these for you to view. The vase is signed on the bottom with the incised "Hampshire Pottery" in Script letters along with the letter "M" in a Circle to Honor his Wife "Emoretta". She was the Sister of the founder, James Scollay Taft. There is also the mold or pattern number "18/3" impressed as well. This form was the 2nd largest of this form. The other size were 18/1, 18/2, and 18/4 the largest. Hampshire Pottery started producing Matte Glazes in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main Competitor Grueby Faience of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown. This piece can be dated based on the "M" in a Circle mark. This was the mark that Cadmon Robertson used during his tenure with Hampshire Pottery. This vase was made, circa 1904-1914. Shoulder vases from Hampshire Pottery are becoming very hard to find. The uniqueness of this Glaze would make this a Great Addition to one's Hampshire Pottery Collection. It would also look outstanding on that Stickley Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase. For sale is a wonderful and early form made by The Hampshire Pottery of Keene, New Hampshire. The form is call an "Artichoke" Vase and it is in the very desirable and hard to fine matte Blue. The Vase stands 2 3/4" tall and is 4 3/4" in diameter. The Embossed Exterior of Vase displays a very realistic appearance of an "Artichoke". It has an outstanding matte Blue glaze with the high points being a light blue. The Leaves look Hand Carved with some Veining in this nice vase. The Form is crisp and very well detailed. Some refer to this as a Cabbage Shape but it is really an Artichoke. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition free of nicks, chips, dings and hairlines. When looking directly into the Vase it is not perfectly symmetrical and really doesn't have that mold made look. The piece is signed on the bottom with the incised "Hampshire Pottery" along with the M in a circle to honor his wife Emoretta. She was the sister of the founder, James Scollay Taft. There is also the shape number "24" impressed just above the M in a circle mark. This Vase has that nicely ground bottom along with Hampshire Pottery's white clay showing. Hampshire Pottery started producing Matte Glazes in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main Competitor "Grueby Faience" of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown. The M in a circle mark was used from 1904-1914. Matte Blue in this shape is hard to find. I have only had a few of these in 40+ years as a dealer/collector. This will make a wonderful addition to any matte Pottery collection of Art Pottery and would look great on that Stickley Mission Arts and Crafts Bookcase.   « Less
